Hey all you Lance haters, I just took a nice bike ride on my TREK in the sun with my son.
Go ride your bikes with your friends and family and think good thoughts.

Hey that's cool bro! I just got back from a 4 hour ride on my Wilier! I saw a couple of fat poser "cyclists" out riding POS Treks, maybe one of them was you?

Am I missing something about all these references to Trek?

I am just concerned that trash talking about brands of bikes is actually serious. I am going to be optimistic and assume it's all tongue in cheek.

Good for you. Mine is in school. He is 9 also. He can only ride ~8-9 miles.

Good Luck.

Not to brag (well perhaps a little), last year my daughter road part of our Sunday route for a total of 16 miles and a couple of climbs :) - she was eight at the time. This year it has been a little more difficult finding riding time out of town for her but she is getting a lot of town and dirt riding miles in this year.

My 13 year old son finished his second century a couple of weeks ago and his first race, the Mt. Diablo challenge.

I am actually not pushing either of them to be racers, just hoping they enjoy riding as much as I do.

I put my money where my mouth is too.

The day I heard Lance was coming back was the day I quit my team, cut my elite license in half and took up running. I refuse to be a part of the sport over which he rules.

You know, I forgot to ask, what size frame did you ride?

Well I have to admit that your taste in bikes is excellent then. It's a damn shame Schwinn was purchased by Wal-Mart because they used to make incredible bikes.

This was my entry into real cycling - Schwinn bought a bunch of Columbus steel tubing and made a series of models just under the Paramount in the late 80s. I just rebuilt mine with a mixed 9-speed group and use it for a travel bike.

You probably would not appreciate the rest of the road bikes in my garage (they are all Treks:D).

I just got one of them - very nice rides - climb well, and were priced right.

Any light bike climbs well. Those things have noodly BB's and descend like crap.

Interesting - I rarely have trouble dropping people while going downhill - the flats are a completely different subject. Also, I really doubt you will find many BB that are stiffer.

For what it is worth, I was looking at a Kuota KOM when I bought the 2010 5.2 and have found the Madone much stiffer in the bottom bracket and, somehow, not sure how they did it, a much more comfortable ride on rough roads. I road both bikes over the same route which includes a lot of rough riding and hill climbing. I also found the Madone a much better descending bike as well.

The KOM was set up with Rolf Vigor wheels and I put the 2009 Race X Lites on from my 2006 Madone.

Cycling is 95% the rider and 5% the bike. If you descend well, you will descend well on anything. It's just a matter of how comfortable you are doing it.

One would not look at the specs of any Trek and think it would be a great descender--but specs don't always speak to how well a bike performs under you. I would assume fairly neutral to slightly twitchy handling. More than good enough, but certainly not as great a descender (at least for how a lot of people think of it) as a good Merckx or similarly designed geometry.

You may simply like that geometry. You may also be a raging fan-boy. Only you know. :)

The Trek is less twitchy that the Kuota for me. The Kuota was very light - running SRAM Red - almost sounded like it was made of paper mache. I also was looking at a Specialized Tarmac from another shop but price, but shop loyalty (and a good price) won out.

I look at Trek at first because of the lifetime warranty on the frame (and I do like they fact it was the bike of the Tour for the new millenia). I also enjoy watching Armstrong ride but doubt I would ride a bike I did not feel comfortable with just because it supplied the bikes for a number of tour wins. But the main reason for buying these particular bikes was the fact I like the shop and they made me great deals on the two Madones that I own (along with five bikes for my kids and one of the mountain bikes, the other was an eBay special - Santa Cruz Heckler).

I am sure there are a lot of other bikes out there I would enjoy riding but I am happy with what I have. I do tend to believe when people start knocking Trek as a manufacturer, they have a problem with Astana (Discovery, USPS) - or more likely with LA. I tend to think it is as irrational to dislike a bike because of who rides it as to buy one solely because you idolize the rider.

Or perhaps they've looked into all the others and only Astana's syringes are suspicious. Since the UCI have all but admitted they gave Astana preferential treatment during the race I'm sure Boss Hog felt absolutely confident that they could dump whatever they liked without it getting into the wrong hands.[/QUO

It seems to me the threads that contain dope also contain Lance and or Astana, you would think that they would be only team useing dope, by the way that every one goes on about it they do,just because he is a high profile A**hole by what is writern dosn't mean he is the only one to deny it.

not a Lance fan but he has done a lot for the sport.

bring back Jan doped or not he was the best.

he has fooled people into watching the sport. he is a fraud. if he didn't cheat then he wouldn't of necercarily had his victories and some people would of not taken interest in the sport.

I guess it would be better for cycling if there were not as many fans, especially in the United States.

My desire to see a restoration of morality and fairplay in the sport is not irrelevant, but when it comes to Lance I just utterly loathe him.

His personality seems utterly repellant, everything he says offends me, the mentality of his fans I find pitiful, and the whole thing is such a fraud it just stinks.

Oh - and wearing black socks? Fcuk I hate that....

Your a good man Mongol_Waaijer - don't ever change(except get back on the bike - Lance would +1 this also).

By using the word restoration you imply that there ever was "morality and fairplay" in the sport.

It never existed. There was cheating in cycling from the time racing began in the early 1900's.

How about using the word "introduced" to the sport...

He fooled everybody at the time trails and mountain stages. Really stumped them by pulling a trick on the bunch to get 3rd at the tour. The guy is a tool, okay. He got 3rd. People are watching because the talent pool was supposed to be deeper than letting an old man 3 years off the bike get 3rd. Longo did it over and over and they said women's cycling was shallow and had only 20 riders that could win. Is men's cycling fake? You can't fool the clock at a time trial. Are we really watching wrestling on bikes? Is Lance really Nacho Libre ?
