But you generalized and claimed there were no mountains outside of Europe that a pro cyclist could train on that would prepare them for European mounatains.

And I simply think that's total bullcrap.

So, why did Lance make such a big deal about riding each TdF climb multiple times in 1999-2005? If what you claim is true, then why would he go to France and train there when he could easily train at home?

And if it wasn't necessary, why would he have abandoned the kids for months at a time to live and train in Europe, and stay off the beer and red wine, and weigh every bit of food, etc.? If he had to do that in his prime to win, why wouldn't it be necessary now that he's past it?

People still give him credit for being the guy they saw in the Road to Paris video, but he hasn't been that guy since the comeback. While guys in Europe toughed it out in the cold, he was living the resort life in Hawaii.

Give it a few months, and he can go back to being a celebrity who dabbles in other sports, and defend his Colorado MTB title. He'll be the same fish; he'll just have to keep finding smaller ponds.

Thanks Hog. As always your analysis is enlightening.

On this point I was reading the latest edition of CycleSport and I came across a quote from Wiggins on the very subject you detail.

He said:

"The Tourmalet was OK and I knew the Andorra climbs from riding Catalonia a few years back, but in the Col de Romme were they finally got rid of me, I was overgeared, using a 42 chainring. Its things like that you only know from doing those climbs, knowing what kind of equipment you need and covering all the bases".

Kinda strange!! thehog answering/praising a post by... thehog?

Someone forgot to log out and then log back in again under a different account?

Kinda makes you wonder how many accounts/sock puppets this guy has.

Then again, when you are talking to yourself, you can be sure it is a captive audience.

Obviously you are new here or have no reading skills, the hog does this stuff all the time, it is part of his off beat charm. Wait till the TDF rolls around and he begins to guarantee things that never happen based on some sort of insider info.

Not new here. I post infrequently. I have seen thehog's "predictions", "rumors", "guaranteed won't finish Flanders or some other race" posts.

Based on language/posts etc., I think this is a multiple account issue.

Regarding reading skills, please enlighten me on what I missed.

And please point me to one other post where thehog answers itself. Repeat, I think this is a multiple account issue.

Oh, and please don't say "off beat" regarding thehog. All I can think of is those words reversed.

I wouldn't say so, he has done it many times. He likes to congratulate himself.

have not been addressed. Maybe thehog (or moderators) can supply some facts.

Based on the amount of vitriol that thehog appears to be filled with, and the unceasingly consistent angle of his posts, and his apparent need to keep that viewpoint inserted into many many threads, it would not surprise me if he had multiple accounts.

I remain amazed at the tenor of this forum.

Is congratulating oneself a polite way to paraphrase "offbeat"?

I'm pretty sure 'the hog' is enough personalities for any one person. Just out of curiousity though, if he is posting under more than 1 username, who else do you think he is?

Let's let thehog answer that. Unfortunately, its is fairly easy these days to circumvent some forum analysis tools by using proxy servers to use different IP addresses for different accounts. A different type of forum that I moderate for tried to ban posts originating from proxy servers, but that's like Whack-A-Mole; new proxys are up every day.

Regarding a previous response that thehog likes to congratulate itself, yes I have seen that, but typically that kind of post pops up many days after one of its "predictions" comes true, and he crows about his prescience. If you look at the post that I called him/it on, it has all the hallmarks of someone getting really sloppy with logouts/logins.

Where's Lance?

Sorry, I only went pack a couple pages....but I was wondering watching LBL and all these tdf gc guys getting some quality racing in, and now FW is on versus.

Where is he who cannot be named and what is he doing? When is his next race(s)?

Does it strike anyone else as off that this thread is rather quiet when there is racing going on? Didn't he have a pretty good reputation for 1 day's before cancer?

He opted out of the Ardennes Classics and anymore European races because he felt his 27th place at Flanders was proof that his form was good. He's been training in Texas and Aspen and will gear up with the Tour of the Gila followed by the Tour of California.

Here's how he spent his day today:

lancearmstrong 4hrs today w/ intervals and climbing. Weather deteriorating again. Some rain and snow. C'mon SUN!!!

Thanks. Durango/Silverton is God's country. It's another reason B.Roll tosses LA's salad so gleefully to have him grace the big local road race.

I am not going to cull through the detritus of LA's twitterings, but it doesn't seem like much training is being done in Europe, not that it matters, but whatever happened to his love of Girona? I thought that was like his second home.

Leave The Hog alone. To me he's one of the few posters whose take on Armstrong is "Fair and Balanced". ;)

*(This is a play on the Fox News Network's official credo, which is anything but fair and balanced).

And let me say that The Hog predicted Armstrong would not finish Flanders because he saw the same thing many others saw-an old, bloated rider with not enough racing miles in his legs to physically be able to finish the race.

Then he comes back looking like he had liposuction and finishes in the pack. I had no idea such a transformation was possible and was just as surprised as anyone else who felt the same way.

And no, I'm not The Hog using another forum name. I'm me, everywhere I go.

Hey, thehog can, at times, be good for a chuckle. My concern is posting under multiple ID's especially when one ID pats the other on the back. That would be a serious breach of just about any forum rules, and a serious breach of trust. Trust and credibility form a major part of any online community.

I have been told that due to lack of funds on the part of cyclingnews and the rapid burnout rate of volunteer moderators that this forum is "community moderated". I would hope that "community moderation" would not involve putting blinders on when egregious conduct may be occurring.

I also find it interesting that a particular forum member has not returned to a thread where he has accounted for 21.2% of all posts in the thread. That percentage is obviously a minimum if there are indeed multiple accounts involved.

Disagree, he's a big personality and pats himself on the back by way of bringing an original prediction back infront of everyone. That others congratulate a correct prediction isn't too rare is it? That he hasn't returned here. Maybe because Armstrong isn't doing anything worth posting on? Obvious because we aren't talking about armstrong are we.

The post in question that raised the red flag was post #3906. Go take another good look at it. It is not the typical hog self back patting.

And regarding "Maybe because Armstrong isn't doing anything worth posting on?" If you have read this thread, you will find that such criteria is hardly a necessity.

Maybe the best way to handle this is to ask a mod/administrator to look at account emails/IP addresses.

Or maybe thehog can address the situation.

Have you noticed that you are the only person trying to make hay out of this? That might be your first clue that you are barking up the wrong tree or wandering down the wrong path.

It was the Hog being the Hog. Let. It. Go.
