Did you read the cover caption: "Angry, tuned up"-I wonder who thought that didn't have multiple meanings?

Yep. I actually have a subscription. My first thought when I got it was "didn't he just have a cover???"

Speaking of double meanings...that D in B.F.D. on the Outside cover could easily mean something other than Deal...wonder if the folks at Outside were having a little inside joke there?

He had to let a gap on the kreuziger group at the very end though, at least if he wasn't wheelsucking Frank Schleck until he saw he couldn't do it, because he didn't really do something else the entire climb.

They got the 'D' in the right spot, and the F is right near the E on my keyboard so that could just be a fat finger typo, but the B is harder to explain.... maybe they mistook the B for the P?

I thought he rode within himself, but never really demonstrated that he had the goods. The climb itself didn't look all that tough (certainly not from my climate controlled office :) ), but he finished in the top 10, which is proof that he's a bada$$.

I do find it funny though that AC not dropping Jani on Alpe d'Huez, means he's in trouble or vulnerable, but Lance's fifth place on the stage means he's ready for the TdF. At least according to the media....

I don't think theres any issues with LA or AC's form/fitness. The one who I think might be struggling to be at his best for the tour is schleck junior.

Apropos of nothing: This thread and the board in general is gonna be on fire in about 2 weeks.

Is the torrent up yet?

I would agree with that. He's just not that dedicated to his craft and I think he expects he can get into form rather quickly. I actually think it might be Frank's year now that he's healthy.

I think my larger point was that despite AC's rather consistent performance at the sharp end of the peloton all year, he's still being doubted. Whereas Lance has rarely been at the sharp end of the peloton (and certainly not consistently) and any performance not involving the autobus means he's on target (Tour of Flanders, Luxembourg and now Suisse). Just a strange formulation to me that I've noticed over the last few months (started with the Criterium International).

AS. When I see him in an interview he seems a tad too....uhhhh 'un-serious'. Like he just takes it as it comes, ehhh...come 2nd in 2009, but it doesn't seem to matter if he comes in 1st or 41st. Nice kid, but as they say, youth is wasted on the young.

happiness to the point of lacking competitive spirit?

I am terribly sorry about going off topic. Permit me to get back on track... Lance Bush and Cheney....can't tell any of them apart. How's that?

The king is back. He looked super strong yesterday. He could of gone past gesink if he wanted but he was just holding back for when he has to put a few minutes into contador come july.

Clearly lance is coming back into his early 2000s form. Bad luck for contador i guess.

Absolutley - it was definitley the best 5th place of the season.

I loved it when he pretended not to be able to hold wheels - I havent seen Lance do that since earlier this month - pure genius.

Contador is fooling no-one by going off and winning races - the guy obviously has no form.
July is going to be great - Lance winning number 8 and then I am going to a concert with the original Beatles and some American called Elvis playing backup - it cost me a fortune to buy the tickets but I got a cash deal, I know its well worth it - happy times.

Good to see so much discussion about the greatest of all time. It's about that time of year when the true fans of cycling come out to support a true champ.

Great to see Lance get back to somewhere near his best form. I can see Lance having the strength to drop contador on the climbs.

lancewillwin8 said:
I think he will win his 8th tour. The champ has shown that he is nearing good form with his ITT in Luxembourg yesterday. And this year he hasn't had to waste his time with the giro.

I can also see contador having big problems with his really weak team.

Andy schleck has been racing like a donkey and if he starts flying up the hills in july its pretty clear he will be doped up to his eye balls.

I cant wait for the tour...

Ps I cant wait to see how stupid all you lance haters will look come july.

lancewillwin8 said:
It will be great watching contador going into the red just trying to stick on lances wheel.
probably my second favourite this

lancewillwin8 said:
^ head in the sand stuff if you think contador will win the our without bruyneel. I get the feeling the radioshack boys have their hands on some new supplements.

lancewillwin8 said:
The way i see it is a radioshack podium.

1. Lance
2. Kloden
3 Leipheimer

And a few of the other riders on the team in the Top 10.

Radioshack just look to be unstoppable and are clearly the best team going to the tour. I would have put contador in at 3 but astana is way too weak this year and without bruyneel albertos program will be way off.

lancewillwin8 said:
Fantastic win for Team radioshack and Brajkovic.

Looks like everyone on radioshack is coming into top form when it counts.

lancewillwin8 said:
Terrible form from AC so close to July...Doesn't look good for him this year with a weak team and withou bruyneel at the wheel. Its an almost certain victory for lance at the tour.

They're not, just somebody having a bit of fun baiting the CN forum - everybody knows CN is LA Obsessives Central.

If they'd left out punctuation and added some more typos and exclamation marks, it might look more credible.

Yeah he's pretty funny, responding to a guy who is obviously only posting to get people like Masa to respond as he did.

Contador aside I think todays ride showed Armstong is on target to peak at the tour and Shack as a team made Saxo look a bit second rate today. Great ride by Geisink but Andy is still not showing any form which is concerning this close to the tour.

Pretty funny. I'm surprised Dr Mas got sucked in, he's usually pretty good at seperating the fanboys from the satirists.

Has Wonderlance been banned? Is this the same person?

Well I hope Lance is on target to peak at the Tour - his season (& perhaps career) end in Paris - unless he is using the Tour as preparation for Leadville.

Lance has done ok in the TdS - I was more impressed with LA's other stages in the TdS than yesterdays. He has been keeping himself towards the front and trying to keep out of trouble, although I am surprised no-one noticed his fall in the group behind Cav on Wednesday (video here @1:30) - although he fell like I fall in to bed when I'm drunk.

Andy Schleck did ok yesterday - he was testing himself while Lance was sitting on using up his team as a rehearsal for the Tour, but losing ground over the top of the climb would be a bit of a worry but he should be fine for the Tour.
Andy rode with his heart - Lance rode with his head.

Not so sure about that. As ever, the Saxo Schleck tactics were a bit of a mystery. It's a wonder Andy didn't pull a neck muscle since he spent so much time looking behind.

However, yesterday was a test run for all.
IMO, Andy was testing his acceleration on the climb. Twice, he went up the road, a la Contador. Quite frightening pace. Caught poor old Brice Feillu in no time. Contador in mind.
Job done, he switched off.
Early in the week, his was Cancellara's personal valet.

Lance and the Shack?

Lance: Much better than expected. The diesel is working well, but the supercharger appears to remain broken. Unwilling or unable to follow sharp acceleration?

Levi: Below par all season. Suffered badly in the final 5kms of the climb. May be the first of the old dogs to be passed his sell by date.

Kloden: Well known fact. German diesels run forever. Once again is looking the most dependable of the bunch.

The Rest: Nowhere to be seen from fairly early on. Not such good news. Look to the Dauphine squad to fill in the gaps.

Hmmmmm. I'd be worried. Very worried.

If Lance can hold wheels now and he amps it up at the Tour with the blood the guy is going to be right up there.

Scary thought.

None the less if Lance starts to climb with the leaders at the Tour Floyd has his finger hovering of the SEND button on the last two emails.

Go on Floyd send them!
