Must be tough going through life taking yourself so seriously.
Humor. Get some.

thehog said:Hmmmmm. I'd be worried. Very worried.
If Lance can hold wheels now and he amps it up at the Tour with the blood the guy is going to be right up there.
Scary thought.

Roland Rat said:I don't think I could watch the Tour in that situation. Phil'n'Paul would be unbearable.
I would watch the stage after he was carted away by the police, though, to see what they said then.

thehog said:You may think I jest but it’s a big gamble by all those involved. If Uncle Lance starts climbing and mixing it with the big boys how’s the media going to play it this time? I can’t see them writing the glowing write-ups they used to. They’re going to reference the Landis claims. I’m seriously worried that cycling is going to made to look a joke again and not by positive tests but from Armstrong climbing like its 1999. That’s just going to be stupid. I really am scared.

Sorry, we usually agree.

Barrus said:To be quite honest this truly is the worst case scenario. This sport will lose all credibility, as little as it still has, if Lance suddenly wins another one. Yes, the American press might write a fairytale, but I believe in Europe this would be Festina levelcredibility loss in the eyes of the general public
Really, that's not really the impression I get around herejens_attacks said:no,it would be cool.
of course,a lot of pubers will cry.eyes of the general public?!!!!!!gtfo, the general public doesn't give a xxxx about doping, only some fanboys or haters, people who don't have a life.that's all.
You couldn't be more wrong. The general public thinks cycling is full of dopers, and a lot of them don't like the sport because of that.jens_attacks said:no,it would be cool.

Mellow Velo said:Yes. It would be an absolute disaster for cycling, in the long term.
While he would receive the plaudits amongst his fans and in the lowbrow, general sporting press, the heavyweight media would have a speculative field day.
Ultimately, the sport's credibilty would hit a lower level than that of pro wrestling.
Were then any of Landis's accusations to then bare fruit.........
The Festina Affair and OP would seem like a walk in the park.
It takes a monumental ego to put the whole sport into such peril.

jens_attacks said:look at the world cup,no one gives a **** that they all use PEDs.it's a beautiful show, you don't have to stay like in cycling competitions asking yourself:"shiit, will my favourite get busted?will they ban him for two fuccing long years?"cycling is such a fucced up sport.still i love it.
about lance,i hope he can fight.a top 5 is my prediction for him.

alberto.legstrong said:A question for all to ponder:
Cycling and cycle racing is beautiful, more beautiful than words give me the ability to convey. But there is a darkness to it, of which doping is only a (large) part, but not its entirety.
Would I/we feel the same way about it without the dark element?
I don't have an answer, only a question.

I think this is one of the major differences between the US and Europe and why it is and will likely remain for a long period of time a mainly continental European sport. The sport in many other countries is built on a few wins or good appearances of individual riders, which over the long run is not sustainable for the sport. I think this is also one of the most damaging things LA has done, built a cult around himself. That way if he falls, so will most of the cycling in the US, which truly is a shame, especially for the teams over there who will get in real heavy weather if LA is found out and it will be a struggle for them to survive.kurtinsc said:I can assure you that's not the opinion of the general public in the US.
When news came out about the Landis claims, everyone I know who knows I follow cycling came up and said "Did you hear about this? It's stupid, everyone knows Lance never tested positive, and is more tested then anyone else."
Most couldn't name another cyclist... not even a US great like Lemond.
