Surely not? Then we'll see the likes of Juventus and Milan get drawn in exceptionally hard groups, and if there's one thing you can count on UEFA for it's manipulating things so that the bigger clubs do as well as possible.

Dan Roan with the BBC is saying on twitter that he's hearing there maybe a statement from United at 10 in the morning. I say there is a bit of truth in the Ferguson era coming to an end.

And it's not the only big news going around at the moment. John Cross with The Mirror is saying Rooney could be on his way to Bayern.

And Libertine, Guillem Balague on Sky Sports said Amorebieta has left Bilbao to sign for Fulham.

It could but the only thing holding up the Mourinho to Chelsea deal is 10m euro buyout clause. There is no way I could see United paying that.

There is big rumours about Moyes but Oliver Holt with The Daily Mail is saying he heard Moyes was discussing possible transfer targets at Everton today. Nevertheless he still hasn't signed a new deal and he must be giving serious thought to his future when he hasn't put pen to paper so far.

I think we will just have to wait and see what United say in response to all this but it's strange that they refused to comment today when they got contacted by the media to respond on all this.

Big Sam once said he would win the league every year if he was United or Real Madrid.

Ferguson is staying on in a Director and Ambassador role and I think this is more suited with Moyes in the managerial role than Mourinho. I couldn't see Mourinho taking on this job with another high profile legendary figure above him at the club.

Looking at the odds Mourinho and Moyes are the two favourites by a fair bit and Klopp 3rd, saw someone say the Savile investigation strikes again, made me laugh.

Sky Sports are saying their sources are telling them that Moyes is in pole position to take the job and could be announced in the next 48 hours.

Plus another journalist on Sky News is saying the deal to replace Ferguson is done.

I think Moyes would be a good appointment. He will bring stability and loyalty to the role and done an excellent job on a limited budget at Everton. He has a good eye for a player and did well in identify players of the calibre of Arteta, Pienaar, Baines, Jagielka as well as selling on the likes of Lescott to City on a huge profit.

Regarding Everton's future if Moyes does indeed leave, Martinez would be an excellent choice with his policy on the way the game should be played. Wigan look certainties to go down but that is more down to the deeper issues at the club where he is under pressure from Dave Whelan to sell his best players on a consistent basis. For instance James McCarthy will probably be the next one out the door even if they managed to pull off the great escape and Martinez must feel he has taken the club forward as much as he can.

My turncoat ManU supporting youngest son says he and his mates are all sure it will be Moyes, and that they're good with that.

Mourinho would be the worst possible choice, unless they took him specifically for a couple of years in order to groom Giggs or Scholes for the long term role.

Story going around tonight is that Falcao is on his way to Monaco in France. Big surprise if true.

As for Moyes, I think it's a very good appointment in the circumstances. Lots of United fans I know are sceptical about him and would have been more happier with the likes of Klopp or Conte or that they should have gone for Pep earlier. Moyes's credentials have been dismissed far too easy for me and I've had a few disagreements with Arsenal fans I know and on twitter the last day or two about this where they said they would have been more worried about a more high profile foreign appointment like the names mentioned already. I strongly disagree. Guys like Klopp and Conte started at lesser clubs before getting their big moves. In the case of Klopp he promoted and relegated Mainz and while Conte did well at Siena, he was a huge flop at Atalanta. As we all know Guardiola had no serious managerial experience before taking the hotseat at Barca and Rijkaard before him had the Dutch job where he did well, it must be remembered his first club job was a big failure at Sparta Rotterdam where they got relegated. Allegri was at Cagliari before Milan and did well there for a couple years beforehand and Di Matteo only had the MK Dons and West Brom job over a 2 and a half year period before he went to Chelsea as assistant first and on to manager where he won the double of FA Cup and Champions League.

Now let's take Moyes who over 11 years on limited resources has achieved well above the expectations when you take his transfer spend. He has arguably better credentials as a manager than any of those I mentioned above before they got their big move so I think Moyes is as deserving of this as much as anyone else. I remember Moyes in an interview with Guillem Balague on Sky Sports say he loves Spanish football and spoke of how he tries to mix that policy by putting his own ideas and Britishness on a team. Arteta, Osman, Pienaar, Baines, combined with Neville and Jagielka made for a well balanced team. I think he will carry on this at United and keep the identity and traditions of the club going forward and I'm sure this is what appealed to Ferguson when he recommended him as his successor. Remember he also came close to signing players like Ever Banega from Valencia and also tried to sign Sissoko and Moretti as well when they were there. Another player he had his eye on was Joseba Etxeberria when he was a Spanish International but the limited resources always held him back. That shows he has a good eye for a player and with more resources he will now be rubbing his hands at the prospect of being able to look in the higher echelons of the market.
