If people try to establish a link between taking PEDs and getting cancer, I suspect Lance's people can just claim that it may be the other way around: after all, there is evidence that testicular cancers can cause a rise in testosterone levels so they may try to show that there are "natural" causes for his higher testosterone tests pre-diagnosis.

Yep - and lucky they saw abnormal the levels early to prevent the cancer from spreading.

I don't think he's going to argue he got cancer in 1993.

But don't they give testosterone to cancer and aids patients? It might have been the reason he survived, who knows.

Sounds a bit far-fetched, do you have any links which suggest that dosing with testosterone prior to cancer increases the likelihood of successful treatment?

So why didn't he play ball with Lance in 2009 then?

Lance obviously didn't get the response he desired after the announcement. Then he got four months worth of publicity about it before deciding not to give Catlin money. It was the usual take credit for it in advance then don't bother following through, like the transparency in media relations, I'll talk to anyone anywhere spiel.

My question is...Since they apparently found PEDs at Popovich's house then why isn't he suspended?

I wondered the same thing. But it's possible he's already been served notice by UCI or national federation but that can't be made public until he's either formally charged or convicted.

Nice article though, the house is slowly crumbling.

Is there a link between testosterone and cancer?

Apologies BPC you missed the point - just 4 months before he was diagnosed with an advanced cancer LA's HCG should have been through the roof and spotted during testing - it leaves the question why was it not picked up?

Damn, DR., don't be outing him so quickly. There's gonna be some comedy gold here in the next hours, days and weeks.

Send THAT to Fabiani and the USPS...

"Cyclist Armstrong, who also had negative press in 2010 with accusations of doping by former teammate Floyd Landis, came in close second with minus 30 percent lift in the value of his campaign for Radio Shack."

The study concluded that fewer than 12 percent of ads using celebrities exceeded a 10 percent lift versus average industry norms, and nearly 20 percent of celebrity ads yielded negative lift scores in excess of 10 percent.

Send another copy to USPS.

Yet he won his tours with a lower hematocrit. Doesn't make sense to me.

Since the 50% HT rule was put into play, the purpose of blood doping has not been to raise HT levels, but to keep them from falling during the latter stages of a GT.

I For Americans there's a deal now where you can get six issues and an NFL jacket for $1.99 - you just have to be sure to cancel before auto bill kicks in. I'm thinking of signing up, registering my disgust with the story as a subscriber, and keeping the Saints jacket as a souvenir. At least I can cost them some money

Dude, that is such a cool scam!
But I bet Lance thought of that as a 10 year old kid

Well, there were lots of tests during the tours. Maybe he could fool a few of them, but all of them? I don't see anything to suggest he had an advantage over the other guys in GC so that preserves his reputation as the rightful winner of his tours at least. That's the way I see it.

I agree with the bolded bit. I think the point is obvious. Obvious to all, that is, whose agenda isn't hatred of Armstrong. (Which of course excludes most of the active participants in this forum.)

You may not like Armstrong. You may have good reason for not liking him. But he played the same game his competitors played, and raced the same races, and if they could have beaten him they would have. Did he pay off the UCI? Most likely. But if they were taking bribes from Armstrong, they wouldn't stop with him. If they were in the bribe taking business, you can bet they had more than one customer.

SBS have picked it up in australia. Very surprised to see them reporting it.

Sports Illustrated posted some of its findings on its website Tuesday and said it expects to include a longer version of the story in the January 24 issue of the magazine.
