The only thing Sky did wrong was not get a man in the break meaning they had to do a lot of work and use most of the riders to bring it back. To say they should have had a man in the final few km to chase back Voekler is a bit harsh. At that stage in the race only the team captains were left. Out of the front group only Lampre had more than one rider, and in no way would I say this was a sprinters course.

what race did you watch?

GRM had Tuft in their for Hesjedal. Tuft drilled it from 600m (or so to go) to almost 200m. RSH had Zubeldia and Horner. LMR had Cunego and Gavazzi. So 3 teams had 2 players in the final.

I found it funny that RSH rolled over and gave up when Voeckler attacked at 1100m or so. Especially after they worked so hard to bring back the Breschel, Gesink, Hesjedal, Cunego break. They seemed clearly motivated on the win... and then simply gave it away in the final.

Goodfellas is 2nd only to Pulp Fiction in terms of quotability.

I totally agree...

WHAT DOES MARCELLUS WALLACE LOOK LIKE?

Anyway...
Has anyone found a full results list for the race? All I can find is the top 10 CN has in its article.

Thanks for the links.
Great home town ride by Ryder, at least for a guy 5000 km from his home town. Beautiful timing by TV as usual. That looked like a nice course, can't wait to see Montreal on Sunday.

Basso didnt look sick. He just got off bike and walked off. I think it might even have been the team area where he got off as they immediately moved the barriers for him, let him walk through. I think the stop was planned.

Conveniently, and completely by accident I'm sure, he got off his bike right in front of their hotel. He did not, in any way, plan that DNF.

nice win by voeckler, and after reading this thread it would seem gesink did really well to still get 3rd.

And well done to BMC, fulfilling their modest expectations and all :)

In the report of CN.com there is no mention of Gesink in the first great break too. Hesjedal, Cunego, Breschel, Wegmann and after 3km of trying to reach them Gesink reached the group. In which he also did a lot of work. Not as much as Hesjedal though. Breschel and specially Wegmann weren't doing ****.
So seeing how much work Gesink and Hesjedal did it's very impressive they still managed to get 3rd and 4th.

Yeah, and BTW thanks to The Shack for doing a lot of work in getting that group back, for... yes, for whom exactly? If you have no-one who can win this race, please don't ruin the attackers' chances. Not looking forward to them screwing up Lombardia, which they apparently will ride after all.

Zubeldia is in great shape at the moment. He's not exactly a winner, but if they're not going to play their cards, why show up at all? They didn't give up in the end any more than all other riders in the front group. Seriously, this RadioShack hatred clouds your judgment.

It's a circuit, of course he was going to abandon right in front of his hotel if it was along the route.

They shouldn't put the hotel next to the circuit. It's so demotivating specially since for once they get a decent hotel instead of bunkbeds etc ;)

Ballan punctured and had a mechnical in places where the heat was on in the peleton so that wasted energy. His result was quite good considering. Shame Bobby G got caught right before the line.

To be honest I am shocked that BMC have only won six races this year (counting a win by somebody who doesn't even ride for them until next year). If it weren't for some god-given factors always sabotaging their chances, they would have won every race ever!

Boy, you really ARE a Cuddles fan, imitating your idol.

That's my problem when I ride, any route I plan necessarily involves riding past my house several times :(

Nope. I just don't like Zubeldia and Leipie :) I do like Brajkovic, but he was out of the race already.

But yes, I did find their tactics rather odd. I wouldn't call it "hatred", though.

Was there ANY question at all Hagen could handle the worlds course this year then???

That is new to me. If Hagen is ever going to find a tailor made course, it's this year.
A shame his team is sh.t and that the main opponents are attackers, like Gilbert and Pozzato. So he is going to either have to react to attacks himself or hope Spain gambles on Freire (who's not even certain yet)

Tactically it's not easy. The course is perfect for Hagen. Who could ever doubt that.
Yet the norwegian team ds (kjaergaard from USPS fame) will make him work for Hushovd. And our third guy is Kristoff (BMC). Promising young guy, but not a great domestique for the worlds, since he'll probably spend a lot of effort just hanging in a race as hard and long as the worlds. Don't understand why they didn't bring Arvesen. He would definitely be of lot more help than Kristoff. But Kristoff can sprint so he's in the team, though I'm 100% sure he won't be there at the and. Who knows what they're thinking... I think Hushovd has a better chance than EBH this year though, so their "plan" might actually work.

How does Hushovd has a better chance? He is not exactly faster. He is stronger in surviving 250km+ races, but odds are on this course, Hagen is also still there...

I reckon Hagen can do well.
The Kristoff selection is dumb though- they should of gone for Nordhaug.

Well, there won't be radios in worlds I think (right?), so it doesn't really matter who Kjærgaard has told them to go for, if both hushovd and EBH are there at the end they will most likely be sprinting against each other...

Well, some norwegian experts actually think Hushovd is still faster than EBH for some reason.

I think in the end it might come down to age before talent though that's not what they did with the Kristoff over Arvesen selection. At any rate it will be interesting to see how they settle it in the end if both of them are there. It would be interesting to see EBH lead out Hushovd only to have Hushovd unable to get passed EBH before the line.

others can convienently make up excuses for for their riders and I was actually scathing of bmc's tatics.

The Montreal circuit seems to favour a sprint finish compared to the Québec one, which had that long uphill drag to the finish. Sportnet 1 in Ontario had the the last 2.5 hours of Friday's race live in HD with English commentary - I enjoyed this whilst working from home.

Yeh, but the hill in the Montreal circuit is a lot harder then the one in Quebec. A LOT harder. So there won't be many sprinters left at the end of the stage.
