Congrats to Pogi on impressive victory! It was a solo, brave ride but he had had to dig deep to win it, obviously still has reserves of form. Also kudos to Yates on his strong performance - he was close to catching the Slovenian. Yates brothers are really strong early on - they should team up in a GT and win it collectively (bibs exchange in case of a crisis of one of them). WVA pretty impressive too - just 45 seconds back and 9th place today. Compared to others Pogi seems rather big, like a 70+ kg guy (can't believe he's 66 kg). BTW the quality of the field here is so high, almost all best riders - compared to it Paris-Nice looks like a Tier II race.

Remember 2013 Sky??

They totally chilled out on MTFs. Leisurely pace until the final 2.5km.

Leisurely until steady 400W, after half an hour there's just a few left, then Froome goes boom. Now we have a rider who's doing 450 W for 36 minutes and a few others not so far away at the beginning of March. No matter how it's ridden, in the end the power is insane.

"I was hoping Ineos or UAE would control it longer. But the teammates were soon gone and then I saw it coming that they would break it up quickly," Van Aert said.

Tomorrow first favourite is Ala, the only one that can beat him I think is Pogi. This walls, uh I do not know. Maybe MVDP, if he saved some legs from today, because he did not race full gas on a climb. This one will be so interesting. But van Aert, I think after today he is spent as hell. It will be tough for him following those wheels on 13-18 % gradients.

I see the bookies have MVDP as favourite tomorrow but he struggled a lot on the Saturnia stage that Woods won last year at Tirreno which involved a similar climb to the one they are riding tomorrow.

I expect a reiteration of last years stage similar to this and a Mr. Fuglsang to make his appearance.

Edit: Whoops 2019, two years. And a LBL and Lombardia in between.

It looks like Pogacar only problem is his team. It can turn ugly at the Tour if they don't address the issues.

Nice race. Incredible Wout. Expected more from Ala. I guess Bernal is true to his word that this year will be a transition year. It is a pity really. I am not familiar about the back problems he has and how badly it can affect you in your performance, but if he doesn't repair his position or his gear ratio he might have to live with those issues forever. I keep watching him ride up the mountain on this massive gears.

This race is almost over unless Wout does something spectacular, or Pogacar team screws it up.

There are still 20 bonus seconds on the finish lines. And more time than that is up in the air tomorrow.

I don't know why anyone would think he can't possibly win this, after last year's Tour.

To me, if Jumbo think he's one of the favourites they should have given him more than Foss who's about the only good climber with him. Even if saving Kuss, you still can bring two of Harper, Tolhoek or Vingegaard (and both Harper and Vingegaard showed good legs at UAE) and that gives WVA a much better chance to win overall. Their lineup looks more like it's there for sprint stages and prep racing. From a GC pov, outside of WVA and Gesink, it's C team guys

Am I the only one in thinking that main Murito is probably too hard to favor Van Aert over Pogacar? Probably better to blast off on one of the shorter ones and hope to get away with VdP and Alaphilippe
It's 20 km from the finish. Steep enough to cause elite selection, and then plenty of road left to attack on. Heck, he could even attack before that climb. Everyone will look at Pogi and expect him to chase, if his teammates are not on a super day.

,
How did he disappoint there? He might have been the strongest rider in the race that year, but just had bad luck, which obviously is part of PR.
And in Roubaix 2019, he was totally abandoned by his team(mates) after his bad luck. Today, little has changed. The best teammates are at the moment in Paris - Nice, as helpers of Roglic..... who is the only top rider there. Roglic could even win Paris - Nice without teammates. And Van Aert.... ? In Tirreno, with a super field of topriders, "helped" by a second-hand team.
