He did not show himself at the front until the very end of the stage and I agree he is not at his best at the moment, but 20th best? The ones that attacked barely held on at the end, so I believe it was smart riding from Rogla and in the end he won by a bike and a half, so pretty good.
Yeah I think he was very deliberatly staying back and just gambled Mas and co would be blown back.

His body language looked fine to me.

Tomorrow is partly cloudy, not a lot of wind, up to 10kmh. Lot of small steep climbs.

Bora 4-5-6, that's not a good leadout.

it's unfortunate for them but I think they played the climb well. They just bet on the wrong horse. Probably they bad that Vlasov could sprint for the victory but in the end Hindley was the best and he was doing a lot of work. In the end I think a good result for them, as with no headwind I don't think they had the form to stay up with Landa, Mas, McCarthy and co. Now they have a great situation for tomorrow.

Roglic didn't look great but played it cool. Race could be over. With that team and the course tomorrow they can control it and keep it together until the end for Roglic to sprint. If the race get's super hard maybe Roglic isn't at a 100% and someone can crack him. Movistar and UAE should try but I#M not sure they have the guys to do it.

Roglic definitely not the strongest today, although he was also a little too far back in the group. But yeah, tomorrow's stage should suit him perfectly, even if his endurance isn't quite there yet who will beat him on those short punchy climbs? Maybe if they make it a super hard race.

Kelderman looks quite strong and could serve as a nice foil.

Hh, I sense irony in your post, but the way I see it is he never opened any gaps and he rode pretty smart.

and the strongest of them had to do all the work for the others. Who is the DS here? Gasparotto?

The plan was to go for Kämna and Vlasov as they should be already better in form and Hindley is more looking to Itzulia for his first big test of the season. Obviously he's the best at the moment and should get some freedom tomorrow but there team isn't really set up to attack the win here as they are missing 1 or 2 decent climbing domestiques to play there multiple options better. but tomorrow is more about following the right moves and they just have to make sure that they place one of their three guys in the one that sticks and the other have then to try to follow Jumbo.

A lot of riders arriving together or not many time gaps. I have not watched the stage fully, just the results, but I wonder if the climb wasn't hard enough or just the contenders being equal in strength?

Is Lennard Kamna now a proper GC rider?
That's an early call IMHO. Conditions fully played into his favor. Due to the wind most riders preferred to ride a steady tempo. Apart from Caruso no true attacks and change of tempo. It was cold, rainy and windy which should harm him less than others.

I think in general, light riders today wasted more energy to figh againts the wind than heavy ones..so today gravity is was just a factor, maybe not the more important.

The weather, basically. It's a unique set of circumstances which made attacks a form of suicide on that final climb. You get screwed by the wind.

Just look at how sketchy that final sprint was. I think it was Tao Geoghegan Hart who even seemed to wobble a bit as he stuck his nose into the wind. So I don't think there's anything to takeaway here regarding the route or the relative form of the riders in the bunch.

Rog wins the sprint though because he's... a mountain sprinter.
