Well checking the results Eibar was the only real selection in 2009. So how as it better than this year?
It had Alberto Contador. Meaning they went up that climb about twice as fast.

If you can't see how

is more selective than

then I simply don't know how you think cycling works.

Ok it's harder but not really a place where you could excpect real gaps.
I am sure you complained about the route in 2009, too.
It's not Tonys fault that JROD can't TT. nor is it his fault that they didn't ride harder into Eibar yesterday.

But I'm not blaming Tony. Why shouldn't Tony try to win?

I'm blaming the organisers for putting out a crappy course that means Tony can actually be successful despite his strengths being so far away from what País Vasco should be about it's not even funny.

Some races are more for the strong men, some are more for the featherweights. If Igor Antón wins the Eneco Tour, you know they've done something wrong in the course design. Likewise if Tony Martin wins País Vasco.

Ok i agree. Still ithink it would be unfair to downplay Tonys victory. If he wins he is the best. I agree though that the organizers should be able to find more climbs in Pais Vasco.

By the way, in his daily report on his homepage Tony writes that he is currently at 74 kilos.
So he is pretty much on his limit already. Hope he doesn't drain himself too much.
He should gain a few kilos the next weeks again. Then cutting slowly back till July and enter the Tour at around 74 Kilos again.

Sad news, there's a lot of gentle mocking of Tony around here but he's certainly a great rider who looked like he was coming into some good form, hope he's ok and not off the pedals for too long.

Why the heck don't drivers pay more attention ?

Agreed, more poignant after the recent loss on this board. Cycling is dangerous enough without events like this. Hope TM recovers quickly.

It seems the car is interrupting a lot of riders preparations this year. Leipheimer's accident could have been much worse. Terrible luck for Martin who was just starting to show some form.

What a shame, just when he was starting to show some form.... :( Hoping for a quick recovery!

Hope Tony has a good quick recovery.

How do you know it was the cars fault? Is there a source for this?

Well this could have been a lot worse. So we should be more happy then sad.
His manager says Tony can be back on the bike in ten dyas. So that shouldn't be a problem for the Tour and the Olympics. It's cycling, crashes happen.
