And why wouldn't he do that? Clearly that's the best tactic for him. He's never gonna climb up any higher in the GC so his biggest rival is Contador.
Uh, he might if he gets away with Contador, while Froome is more or less isolated with Nairo in his wheel.

Froome has four with him

But who ae they?
Thomas, that's enough to know.
yep, and they wasted the only chance to ger rid of Thomas before Allos

It sort of makes sense as well why they put Roche and Porte into the breakway. Giving Froome protection up the road when Stannard and Rowe are dropped.

I am SO sick of seeing this f**king Sky train trying to numb the race!!!

And people wonder why they are literally getting pissed on. It's not right, but what does Brailsford expect? He has designed a team that looks and rides a race as though Johan Bruyneel was calling the shots.

Astana did the same in the Giro, no reaction.
They still got their asses kicked, and the Giro was an exciting race. It's pretty obvious now what they were trying to do; force Contador to go too deep to recover for the Tour. It worked, but the problem is they bought into the hype of Nibali being as good as the top contenders. They should've saved on of the two from the Giro for the Tour. Now they will end up with nothing.

Are some of you guys stupid or what? why would movistar let contador go and see him reclaim 2nd spot. Sky was clearly forcing movistars hand by not reacting to contador. Froome has nothing to lose, he has a gap of 4 min to contador. Movistars gap is between 1 and 2 minutes so they have the podium to lose, which is important as well.
Yeah. Once Froome managed to get a large gap on second, with the podium places much closer, it was obvious he wouldn't be subject to the anti Sky alliance half the forum is wishing for.
saying that alliance would be anti sky is like saying that vino and kolobnev in 2010 lbl was an anti Valverde alliance lol.

It's a mutually beneficial alliance. 2 riders working together to get a gap on the leader. What would Valverde have to lose?

So the tactic is good when it fails?

Please remember that ill-wishing is not allowed and brings with it an automatic 24-hour ban. Thank you.
So wanting for a rider to never win any race is ill wishing? Is the same as wanting him to break a leg or something? Isn't cheering for someone, or against other, the only reason for sports like these to be broadcasted?

You must be proud of yourself. Have a nice day.

Be careful mate.

The official reason that I was banned (I contacted Andrew Eadie who is a salaried Cycling News guy and is head of this thread) was for "hypothesising" something bad might happen to a rider.

Surprised you are not banned already TBH

He has been banned (and not by me). And I also know that Andrew Eadie (who is not "head of this thread", whatever that is) supported our decision to give you that ban.

Final note: End of this discussion in this thread.

If he tries and doesn't succeed he misses a podium, but in doing so he may isolate Froome to allow Quintana to do damage. If it works, he could win.

Well, he would have been hung out to dry in a 80km break with a rider that he doesn't trust and doesn't work well with. He probably would have been caught by the Sky train some time on the Allos, having wasted loads of energy.

Much better to ride his own race, while protecting a podium position if necessary, than jump on a doomed attack.

They could have gone with him rather than just chase him down..

But maybe they thought: "70k before the finish, this is nonsense, look at the profile."

To be fair Astana was so stupid to waste the opportunity to win with Landa the Giro to preserve Aru and not having him totally destroyed on Mortirolo

Valverde going with Contador right away would have served his interest, although exposed him to a greater risk to lose time to Contador. When he didn't join him right away, chasing him down is also in Valverde's interest.

I think what's actually optimal does depend on the 1st vs 2nd/3rd trade off I mentioned earlier.

So we can't hate on a team cause of their incredible stupid racing? What is that for bs? Movistar are complete idiots and a thread should not be deleted about it

Bridging up to him and work together would be the best for his own and Nairo's chance to win this race.

Sky have neutralised the race now because the gap between Rogers and the Peloton is over two minutes now. Contador will struggle to leap frog to the platform Rogers has set.

It should when it's whole purpose is hate. Criticism is fine, nothing but hate and insults? Not so much.

Why? Rogers can just sit up if he is needed...
