Gonna get hate for this and obviously I don't want this to happen, but if I was Movistar DS I would order Nairo and Piti to go for 2nd and 3rd rather than try attack Froome and lose the second podium place.

Well Nairo is riding for second so they may as well.

What race are you watching? He's attacked multiple times, it just never works.

lol. his attacks have been so timid. the reason is he never goes all out to set up quintana properly. he always saves energy so that he can follow after and save his GC position.

man movistar are idiots after todays stage they only have tomorrow and saturday to attack froome and win time. Even the showing that froome had on stage 10 only had him gain 1:30 seconds lead over quintana. Quinta will have to do double that effort. I dont see him doing that. They should have attacked.

Froome jumps on Quintana's wheel every single time he tries anything. Quintana doesn't have either the kick or the sustained power needed to drop Froome for more than a handful of metres. He's tried to attack him in the last four mountain stages, but Froome is just too strong.

I'd rather see riders go all in because they will be in same position next year and year after. How many years do you wait for a Froome bad day.

Bardet looking so smooth on this descent. Descending is an artform.

The best thing about descending is, that if it looks good it is also fast. Not like climbing or the flat where you can look like ---- but be strong and fast.

It's pretty obvious to everyone - including Froome - that Valverde is close to the limit on the toughest climbs. If he tried to jump hard at a power that is obviously unsustainable, Froome would let him go, gradually reel him in by riding at tempo and then spit him out the back.

It would be suicidal tactics.

Well it's an accumulation of things really. He's theoretically here for Quintana but has been protected as well, not really sacrificing himself at all. Even so, he just follows wheels to the top and sprints, not even attempting attack once from a bit further out (it's Valverde, even 3k out would be much above average). He's got Movistar riding to protect his placement instead of either attacking or having Nairo attack.

Everything about him is just rubbing me the wrong way this TDF. Might be somewhat irrational I admit.

What race are you watching? He's attacked multiple times, it just never works.

Fair enough, Nairito has attacked and yeah, ineffective really. Much like everybody else to be honest. Bertie's digs have turned up nothing too. I did mention in yesterday's thread that it has to feel a bit hopeless being pulled back by the likes of Porte and Thomas everytime.

Or did you mean Valverde has attacked? Now that I honestly haven't seen.

Who are you kidding, you would love it if that happened :D

I may be a Froome fan but I'd still enjoy a good solid attack by Quintana to lighten things up

precisely.

when you ride to set up your captain, you have to be prepared to "commit suicide".

piti will never do that.

i really don't want him to finally get his podium like this.

The only two guys Froome has chased down himself are Quintana and Valverde. Piti's looked good until today, but then again, were getting into the thick of the third week.

When will people realize that Quintana and Valverde don't have the legs to attack Froome, and neither does anyone else and that each time you attack him, you have Froome closing it down or Thomas. That's why Movistar rode the way they did yesterday because they obviously don't have the legs to do anything and it's better to get 2nd and 3rd for sponsors and everything else rather than miss out on both.

Totally agree.

Agreed. But, that's totally not the issue. If they were to, say like TJ, state their intention of getting the podium finish, then I think everybody will ok with it. Just that, they always talk the big talk about the Alps, attacks on CF, weaking SKy, blah blah blah while all the time their actions suggest otherwise,........so u get why we think they suck?!
So they're lying about their tactics. How rude!

It's interesting that all the critics against Movistar tactics comes from fantadors
Check the Movistar tactics thread. Not all of the critics are Contador fans.

If you made the stage 10 ttt into a 50k tt, made yesterday a 50k tt and made today a hybrid of yesterday and today, it would be the best TDF route ever.

True, but there's something to be said for panache and the desire to win. Piti rides for Piti, so it looks like it's up the Quintana to do the damage whether success is assured our not.
