Froome probably could have lost minutes if this stage had been raced properly. But no let's wait for the last 500m instead. If froome ends up winning the tour by a few seconds it would be hilarious
Easy to say, much harder to do.

A 4 horse race at this moment of the tour, who could predicted that neither one of those horses were Porte, Quintana or Berto??

Amazing result... Despite the borefest of today, the result is precious!

Froome can't be critical of Landa dropping him, after all he dropped Wiggins in 2012.

It looked like he told Landa to go for it.
Probably to try steal bonus seconds off Aru.
Also to get as high a GC place as possible so Sky can utilise him against Aru.
Also because drafting is pointless at 16%+.

Froome is a low gear high cadence climber. That works on most climbs at the tour but not the short punchy ones where you need a bigger gear.

No way. When he's on form he destroys those kind of finishes - like Pena Cabarga, Cumbre de Sol etc...

He's definitely weak this year.
To a lesser extant than Berto, Froome isn't exactly a spring chicken either. He's right on the edge of that age where riders start to decline (without clinic prolonging). Same age as Indurain when he collapsed, and a year older than Hinault when he retires. Year older than Roche, Delgado, and Fignon in 1991.

He likely is still the man to beat, but he may no longer have that top gear.

Well Froome ''peaked'' considerably later than most, that's gonna be a factor.

But then again, some people said Sky training methods can't be sustained for more than few years, so maybe there's that. But he did sign 3 year extension so they still believe in him

So did Indurain.

Gratz to Bardet and Aru.

Everyone ca have a bad day at a finish like that. But Froome was off the saddle a lot in those last few km. Strange.

4 southern hemisphere riders in top 10

Technically colombia is (mostly) in the northern hemisphere, but I agree with the sentiment.

Two stages with steep finishes and both times Froome has struggled. George Bennett is doing very well. Quintana and Contador were fairly predictable.

This is amazing. Great show from Bardet. Glad that Sky Domination on the yellow has ended. Now Froome would be on survival mode until TT. I just hope Aru is able to stick it out and maybe put more time on Froome at Izoard!

If only Richard was still here. That would really make things even more interesting with his TT!

Well in Porte's case there was nothing to indicate before his accident that he was going to crack in the mountains. He still would have been up there on GC.
