Yeah "no space" for Cav but he somehow was riding side by side with Sagan. Thats because the space was there and sagan closed it with his elbow.

when Cavendish started going for the space, it was there and possible for him to get through. Sagan deviated to the right, hit him and pushed him into a barrier. Pretty clear DSQ from the stage. Won't be eliminated from the race, but he will be demoted.

There was no space for Cav. Sagan was just holding his line.

Cav is already going down here, hitting Sagan's right back and Sagan is flicking his right elbow to avoid crashing,

He didn't deviate off his line. The problem was the small gap and Cav may have been off balance already before the elbow.

You have to defend the posterboy and his well crafted image...
This is pretty bad, I don't know if you should throw him out of the race, but at least relegate him and take away all the points that he got in that sprint.

Replay shows that when elbow came Cav was already falling down.
Not able to tell "who's at fault", but the elbow craziness here on the forum is premature.

When the elbow was out Sagan had already pushed Cav.

There was space. I'm not watching it on a laptop so I don't have the screenshot of the exact moment when Cavendish moved to the right, but if you do what Cavendish did then you can't expect the guy in front to do the same an di close the space, and push you into a barrier.

I would agree with this. Sagan was already drifting to the right anticipating best clearance with riders just ahead. Cavendish was going to try to bull through the non-gap. Sagan's elbow flare was an adjustment to stay upright.

Watched it back several times, Cav went to follow Demare on the right (from the heli shot). Sagan then tries to go for the same gap but Cav ends up in a sandwich between the barrier and Sagans elbow.

Deliberate? No. Dangerous? Absolutely.

Actually funnily enough I think Bouhanni and Greipel bumped into each other and both wobbled which started the whole set of events. But yea that is true what you say.

I would DQ Demare as well honestly but ofc they can't.

Sagan deviated his line right into Cav after Cav was already there. The elbow might not have caused the crash but it was aggressive and it followed Sagan running into Cav. He clearly should be relegated.

Cavs biggest sin is he did not have the speed to accelerate through the gap fast enough to follow Demare.

I think Sagan felt Cav's bike on his and the arm went up to keep balanced as a reflex. Cav was taking a huge risk trying to go through that space against the barriers. Perhaps Sagan veered toward the transenes, but he certainly didn't intend to take him out.

I don't know about DQ, but definitely penalized.

This reminds me of last years World Championships, where Sagan went for a dangerous gap, and said thank god the other rider didn't close the gap. He was basically accepting it would've been his fault if they crashed. Except that gap was small but actually there. There was no gap here for Cavendish.

The elbow came out after Cav bumped into him.
