Yes. I'm surprised how strong Big Tom has been the last few stages. I guess it was a timing thing for him. Not enough training/racing after the long layoff. If the Tour started today, Dumo would be a podium contender.
Agreed, Kuss should've made the attack. So much effort only to get defeated by #2. Overall JV took a loss today.

I was right: before the stage I expected Bernal and Quintana to do something and they did! They cracked big time. Congrats to Pogacar on another victory! What a great guy. I'm regretting more and more these 80 second he lost due to winds: this could've been decisive. I'm disappointed that there wasn't more of GC fight today, on such a great stage: I guess favourites were content that Colombians were dropped early plus JV tempo was too hard to attack for most of them. Let's see what the 3rd week brings: 40 seconds is a small margin and nothing is decided yet. Uran is the favourite for 3rd now, given his good TT.
Surprise is that Porte did not crash in the first two weeks.
Now in the last week without crashing, he has a chance.
He was good uphill most of the time in past, he was just not attentive enough and he panicked when s.t. happened.

Yep, he's better suited to a domestique role. Set a high steady pace so no-one can attack. Roglic has that kick ability, which Dumoulin doesnt; the ability to take time in the last 2-3km. Which are basically how most GTs are won these days.
The signs were already there for Bernal and Quintana is injured.
I think Roglic is not as strong as people think. Today Dumoulin blocked the stage only because Roglic was affraid of attacks. If he wins the race he wil do it only because of his team. He's strong but the difference between him and the rest of the bunch is not impressive

Certainly not gifted. Roglic' riding style is very deceptive, as a result many think he could go faster if he only wanted to. Much like with Quintana in 2016 and 17, when he started to struggle. Today he just didn't have the legs to go past Pogacar in that final sprint.

question is how he responds to third week in TDF.

Does he need a team to do that, though? He can just follow the Jumbo train like everybody else, pick off bonus seconds here and there, (3 more mountain stages with Pog/Rog 1-2 = 12s net bonuses) and give it 100% in the TT.

If he hadn't lost that time in the wind, he wouldn't have attacked the day after either. And even if he did, Roglic wouldn't have let him.

He was strong enough to still take 5+ seconds on everyone except Pogacar in just a few hundred metres.. Despite being in the wind for most of it.

But this was like almost the worst version of a likely scenario. What was missing was Yates not attacking and Quintana/Bernal not dropping

Roglic's big weapon is his sprint and his team obviously. And then you have the TT..........be very hard to beat him. Only a bad day will probably do it or a mechanical.

Most people take for granted Roglic will win the final ITT comfortably, but I'm with you.
Pogacar might be dangerous even if trailing before the ITT. He's an incredible talent.

It was better than something like Morzine 2016 which to this day still is the saddest mountain stage I can remember, but still very disappointing for me and I guess especially to casual cycling fans.
