What ever happened to that former wunderkid Hirshi. Ever since his whereabouts problems in DSM and him signing with UAE he's struggling whenever the road goes a bit up.

Didn't he also have Covid before the tour? But besides that you are right, he's not the same rider at all it seems.

Will Ineos use their numbers to put Jumbo udner pressure? The answer is no, they will just follow.

Looks like they’ve moved van Baarle up the road. Might be trying to launch Pidcock after the second climb. Van Baarle would be a great assist there (hopeful speculation obviously)

I disagree. It's really only 2 dudes in Jumbo's team and half of Pogs team. Ineos is untouched but they're not trying to win. The racing situation simply makes any other team irrelevant by default.

There have been far bigger demolition derbies.
I guess you are probably right, but what's so weird is the amount of riders abandoning after the first week. Usually there are lots of riders getting wiped out by mass crashes early on, but this year it feels like there are two more stage hunters and domestiques abandoning due to illness every day. I mean UAE basically got through the first week in perfect shape and look at where they are now. That just doesn't happen very often.

He has had covid and hurt his knee in a fall on the first stages….

last year he had that big big fall too. So lots of bad luck.

But Tadej looked defeated on the pictures even at the start, not sure this will be his tour.

Think it's largely thanks to COVID doing the rounds a bit still + lower immunity vs non COVID viral infections because we've all been a lot more isolated in the past 2 and a half years.

And the heat I think makes recovery a lot harder even if you don't suffer an acute heat stroke.

To be fair he hasn’t been terrible this year but clearly after pulling out of Suisse he wasn’t ready for Tour.
Maybe not fully terrible but winning GP Aargau is also not the same as winning a Tour stage, Fleche Wallone and finish LBL and the World Championship in the top 3 as in 2020.

Jumbo pace seems the sort of pace where it's nearly impossible to stay away for 4 such climbs. Probably doing like 5.5-5.8 W/kg whereas normally you seem them doing 5W/kg or less when they wanna let a break go and do the Rowe pace style thing.
