All successful social movements antagonistic to the status quo involve disruption, because creating serious social change generally involves heightening a sense of crisis. Climate protestors have thus far been remarkably restrained. The suffragettes, that most retrospectively respectable of social movements, bombed churches and set fire to moving trains. The world was full of people claiming that the suffragettes were setting back their cause too.

This time it won't be the protesters that will motivate global change. It will be economics, the most powerful motivator of human beings historically. At some point in the not-too-distant future, parts of the globe will be uninhabitable for parts of the year, and the massive migration will cause cataclysmic changes, wars possibly, and with any luck a unified global response to climate change, if it's not too late.

What damage did the gay movement cause?

Lol. The climate of Las Vegas is worse now than 50 years ago, but more liveable today. Likewise for Singapore. Despite the warming climate, people migrate south towards warmer areas in the US. Technology and economy changes even faster than the climate.

It's still gotta sting to fight so hard for something, only for someone else to get it basically by accident.

But did Jonas Vingegaard really get it by accident? Yes, he wasn't out trolling for points on Cat. 2-4 climbs, but he was clearly climbing hard on Cat. 1 and HC climbs. He was pushing and racing the hardest on the very hardest climbs, almost consistently. That's not strictly by accident.

If the organizers want the KOM jersey to go to guys purposefully fighting for it, then they probably need to add more ITT kms and make the mountains slightly less important in determining the GC race.

He went AWOL - or I suppose MIA would be a better term, pretty sure he was allowed to not be able to keep up - because he tried too hard in the beginning.
Was it tactically smart? No.
Was it awesomely fought? Yes.

I think it would have been a little less bitter if he'd lost it to Ciccone, or some other guy who actually cared about it. But even then; can you imagine how huge it would have been for Cofidis to win a jersey at the Tour?

He had his chance on the first HC climb yesterday. A top 5 finish on the first climb (when the GC guys weren't pushing) would have probably ended up winning the jersey. Nobody to blame but himself there.

"By accident" in the sense that he wasn'g going for it.

And I'm sure all his attacking was so he'd be in front when they got to the first HC climb. Again, might not have been tactically smart, but it was a great fight.

Record temp 120 Fahrenheit in Dehli this year.

Or a bit more points on cat 2/3/4. I think last year they had double points on MTFs, but that that was removed this year to re-balance the KOMpetition a bit.

Lol in rich countries maybe. In poorer parts of the world people have to literally give up regions because of global warming. I guess we just have to tell people in Ethiopia to build the next Silicon Valley where they're dealing with desertification.
Funny thing is that mostly the ones talking down the challenges from climate change (technology will solve it all!) will be the first to call for closed borders when millions of people will have to migrate.

He wasn't strictly going for the KOM jersey, but he was going for results on the hardest climbs, which give the most KOM points. It would be like a rider going for a bunch of sprint and hilly stage wins, but not caring about the intermediate sprints, and then winning the points jersey. Yes he wasn't trolling for points all the time, but going for stage wins nets a lot of points.

Also places like Las Vegas only exist in current form because they're so incredibly unsustainable. Just look at the water situation in the American West, it's already a disaster.
