Mate Jumbo has now 25 WT victories this season. Many wins but only 1 by Van aert. He is not a big star of this team, he needs to fit into their goals or they should let him go .

What he did this TDF? Do stupid breakaways, get Hindley time on Vingegard, ruin team dynamics on stage 2 and generally be useless. They need to tell him to do what's best for vineggard this TDF as a priority, and if he feels up for it do some sprints after if he wants. But they shouldn't be letting him do random attacks in defiance of his leader, because he is easily replaceable.

Trying to argue Van Aert is not a world class rider, who could easily be the undisputed captain on most (non-GC) teams, is simply out of this world, sorry man ;)

Apart from wind, it's a tactical tool because you control the tempo, either by keeping it high enough to dissuade attacks or to ensure it's not too high for your captain.

Sure, it's like placing defenders close to your goal in a football match. A good thing, but not rocket science and not something that will give you an edge compared to others.

Well, I think most football coaches would argue, that the absence of defenders would be a problem ;)

Good stuff from Michael Rasmussen at Eb.dk (translated):

"The pictures of Jonas Vingegaard with his family have been travelling around Denmark and probably the world in recent days.

They portray a man who clearly loves his family and finds it important that they are there during the Tour de France.

These are very commendable values that Jonas has. I'm not questioning that. But I don't see things from his point of view - I see them purely from a performance point of view. And if I was a manager at Jumbo-Visma, I would have limited it to everyone having their wives and girlfriends visit on rest days - and no more.

And why is that?

Well, we know that men react negatively physically when we get [satisfied] and start a family. Therefore, it would make sense for the team to cut back on family time so that Jonas' body doesn't pump out all those feel-good and love hormones every time little Frida is around.

There's a difference between four boys sitting around the table and two couples. It's not to celebrate the boy band mentality, but there's a different level of tension among the boys. And the excitement level has to be high when you're racing a bike. (...)"

Well he is employed to come up with hot takes. But let's not forget, that one of the things Vingegaard hasn't got in common with Rasmussen and Riis, is that his first marriage hasn't ended in divorce (yet).

Real insightful stuff from Micheal Rasmussen, I’m sure Jumbo are paying close attention and will make sure Jonas doesn‘t get to “satisfied“ by his family.

Jonas and his wife are inseparable. What does this have to do with cycling? Today’s stage is dull. I dream of a world where forumites go with the flow of life. When the peloton knocks it off for the day, posters knock it off apart from “that’s a lovely castle”. When we have an electric stage, forumites run around in circles in their underpants while typing crap into a smartphone to get approval on a cycling forum.

In fairness, Rasmussen does know what it takes to perform at top level.

What he is missing is the psychological upside to having your family close, which may offset the negative physical effects - possibly because he didn't need that comfort himself as a rider.

Sports psychology is very individual and one size does not fit all.

Rasmussen is referring to the scientifically documented connection between becoming a father and getting lower testosterone levels. And to the fact that in other team sports it's not normal to have the players being close to their families throughout a World Cup or other major tournaments - it's limited to one or two days.

Yes but in most sports the players aren't away for months on training camps away from their families. If they were away even during the races it would be a hard existence indeed. Maybe in the times of Rasmussen teams didn't spend months training at high altitude like they do now.
