I think we can now safely say that Jumbo have cracked the code regarding Pogacar. There are those who will put it down to the crash, and of course that won't have helped, but this is what Jumbo were betting on for the whole Tour and they've done it. Just perhaps a bit more successfully than even they would have expected.

It wasn't very enjoyable to watch though. Granon was just a blip compared to this. I'm pretty sure we'll see a different Pogacar next year, with a different preparation. Unless he decides to go full classics mode and forgets about winning the Tour.

Wait, is the code to go faster? I don't think Jumbo does anything wrong and in a hectic sport thats often hard in itself. But they simply beat Pogacar by being stronger, not by outsmarting him.

I didn't find the exact equation in my thermodynamics textbook, but it's basically the first law of thermodynamics, which is about conservation of energy.

It basically reads the difference in energy is equal to the applied work and heat dissipation.

Today we all got a serious glimpse of what this TDF would have been like without Pogacar.

Top 10 reshuffle. Jayco did well to get Yates into the break knowing Jumbo were not going to chase him too hard. Great win by Gall and great team ride by O'Connor. Hindley gone into survival mode. Another good ride by Adam Yates. Pog looked like he'd been hit up the guts by Mike Tyson. Some very tired looking riders crossing the finish line.

Since it is Richard Plugge who mentions it, it is probably true. Isn't it good news though? Maybe a bit overdone, 4 blood controls in 48 hours for Vingegaard is a bit ridiculous.

Doesn't the leader have to go to doping control every day anyway? And considering the history of the tour and cycling in general doesn't exactly make it overly surprising if the organisers err on the side of caution.

In fact he was distanced by minutes in both Tours. You can do brain gymnastics around different issues which I am not even discounting fully (just that they never explain the margin) but July Vingegaard is unbeatable (par crashes ofc).

Butthurt fans overreacting to their favourite rider getting beat and immediately wanting to pull him from competition so they do not have to endure the torture of that rider possibly losing has the be one of the most annoying things ever.

Edit: Seeing now I should add running to the clinic thread and posting hard about the rider beating their favourite rider (who also pulled out unbelievable performances in the past).

But OK also impressing ride by Bilbao, thinking not only last ramp but since Meribel (i.e. what I've seen of the stage).

I doubt it. He just didn't need to go that hard anymore.

i don't think gap will be like this. But it will be more like during Sky era as Vingegaard just needed to do what he needed to to win. With Pogacar he is pushing to the limit, and as result the field is fractured like this.

Wow, great. Pogacar raced super defensively this year, so not playing some stupid games. Just kind of reiterates my point its easy to do things right if you are better.

That's a silly thing to say, but since some people had doubts wether his wrist injury was fully healed at the start of the tour, I wonder if his crash today had an effect on his wrist.

I said many times but Pogacar needs to dropped cobbles classics, and just do enough to win (or just get results) during early season. Riding like madman is not the way to prepare for modern Tour de France, especially with someone who is as strong as you, but just doing traditional modern Tour de France prep.

I am not a Pogacar fan per se, just favour him over Vingegaard. If I would have just any decision power, I actually would send him to the Tour again next year. I am just convinced after seeing the past 2 years now, that it will be the exact same outcome. But sure - there were minor obstacles in both editions, and theoretically there is some upside because of this. In my opinion clearly not enough to beat Vingegaard but give it a shot.

But what, assuming I am right, after that? Do you really think getting some podiums adds to the palmares of Pogacar more than winning all three GTs? For sure not.

Tell that to the people who thought last year was just an anomaly. There's a lot of them. And this year there's the wrist to point to, or today's crash. I think, and I hope, that UAE are wiser and go for a different approach next year.
