He was also the only one pulling with UNO-X before and bridged a couple times himself. He did his job in the end, Pedersen just went early for a long sprint.
That's a little of what I'm getting at though; Mads was super aggressive today, off the front early and attacking many times, and still had the juice to get 5th. To my eyes Mathieu definitely tried to jump and had nothing. Not trying to argue with you here at all, just that I'm not seeing Mathieu with the legs that say he's winning a 250+k worlds race in two weeks. This is not meant to cut him down, just an observation. I'll rewatch the finale later because I'm interested in seeing whether my initial thoughts hold water. The WCRR certainly benefits from him firing on all cylingers.

DS talking to Ben after he got on the bus: “what part of take it easy today and save your legs for tomorrow’s mountain stage did you not understand?” ;)

Although to give him some credit, he’s had such a poor Tour at least he was trying to make something out of it, And there’s always the slight chance coming to the finish in a small group, of getting a gap if a rider attacks early and the favorites look at each other too long before chasing.

Yeah we’re used to see him more aggressive and/or attacking but he’s also been sick for almost a week. Maybe not even 100% recovered. With that in mind I saw him work a little, bridge a couple times when they attacked. He dropped everyone off his wheel to these 2.
I get what you say, but as a big fan I’m happy what I saw today. Get some rest and get better untill the Worlds.

Check how many times he clocks his power meter as if he has a threshold he can't exceed. Well, that's what I'm hoping because if he represents in Glasgow with these legs he'll be hoping some Glaswegian teenagers give him a reason to bail.

Is there anything more useless than neutral service bikes?
They should make some parts of the bike universal, i.e. all shoe and pedal manfuacturers have to use the same system. Then the eff-up with Politt wouldn't have happened. Neutral bikes are as pointless as a one-legged man in an arse-kicking contest if every manufacturer uses a different pedal-click system.

they just need to come with shoes pre-attached, like in triathlon

Dunno how to say this but...

Not everyone has the same shoe size.
humor detector malfunctioning this afternoon? Obviously nothing that they do in triathlon should be replicated by an actual cyclist.

And anyway, not everyone rides the same size bike, but they still make it work somehow?!?

A neutral bike is a very temporary solution, so while you might be able to make do with a too small bike for 10 minutes until a team car comes round, no such like with a small shoe if you have feet the size of Luxembourg. I think Jens Voigt once nearly murdered himself down a mountain on a kid's bike after he had totalled his.

My guess would be that a slight variation in bike-size is less important that a slight variation in shoe-size.
Of course, the last bike they tried to give Politt was probably a normal-sized bike, he's just too tall.

I think a professional bike rider might die from embarrassment from riding one of those Bublrs.

Ha ha.

Are those toe cages???
Yep, he ate a mouthful of asphalt on the descent from the Peyresourd in 2010. His bike was totalled and all team cars had already passed. He borrowed a kid's bike to go on. Some 15 km up the road CSC had left a spare bike with a Policeman, so he smashed it for 15K on this glorified tripod until he got his proper bike from Monsier Le Gendarme.
