Pretty weird to see a rider the caliber of Powless go in a hopeless break. And all that for 7 mountain jersey points.

I simply don't get why EF is doing this.

He can't even lose the jersey today - or tomorrow for that matter - it should be 2 days for him to rest his legs, for when the real mountains come on Wednesday

Now I do.

Cort just said in a pre-recorded interview, that Powless would go for the first climb, and then back off and rest.

Powless doesn't look like he is sitting up though...

Powless is well aware that he cannot compete with the heads of state.

I am sure he hopes that when the real mountain points come he may be able to do what other winners before him have done: take points on the the first summits. He can climb, he just won’t be there at the last climb.

It’s a gamble, for sure. But only way he has a chance. And in the meantime he wears the jersey and gets on daily podiums. It’s really not stupid. It’s knowing one’s limits.

checking whether this was available in Norway, I stumbled across a selection of Gorka Izagirre-wines. Have you sampled these?
I haven't, I'm afraid, although I have had the (non-related) Yzaguirre vermouth.
I would not be surprised if Bol is currently faster than him
Depends which Bol. Cees, maybe not, but Femke definitely is.

Stage win > wearing polka jersey a few extra days early in Tour

Even if winning the jersey overall was the goal he’d be better off waiting. Now he’s just frying himself so he won’t have anything left for a stage win.

Exactly…

Powless got better throughout the years, and recently raised his game to a whole other level.

I also don’t understand why he rides like he does that early in the Tour, attacking every day. He is so good, he could save himself to climb with the best, soon…

But Vaughters wants his men to do the things no one else does… At least it‘s entertaining.

Overestimating how much this takes out of a rider imo. They aren't riding hard and there's plenty of recovery for him before stages he might actually have an outside shot at winning.
