The last 500 M today is a 2-3 % incline, and there is a 4-5 % 500 M hill 6 K from the finish, which will certainly be used to put pressure on some of the trains (especially Soudal and Jayco).

So I think it is one for the punchier sprinters: Philipsen, Girmay, WvA, Pedersen - maybe Ewan if he is in shape.
Yeah, I pray for a Girmay stage win for today!… :)

Overestimating how much this takes out of a rider imo. They aren't riding hard and there's plenty of recovery for him before stages he might actually have an outside shot at winning.
Staying in front of even a chilling peloton still takes a fair amount. Yesterday’s stage average speed was 44kph and he basically did that with 1-2 helpers for 180k.

Exactly…

Powless got better throughout the years, and recently raised his game to a whole other level.

I also don’t understand why he rides like he does that early in the Tour, attacking every day. He is so good, he could save himself to climb with the best, soon…

But Vaughters wants his men to do the things no one else does… At least it‘s entertaining.
Charly Wegelius told Christian VdV that Powless (who is nice) is going to stay in front so long as the pace remains reasonable. If the peloton kicks up, look for Powless (who is nice) to drop back.

regarding Powless: I would have expected he would keep his powder dry today and go for it on wednesday.
Both to win the points, but also compete for the stage.
Then again I reckon the team thinks it is a nice way to take just a little bit of pressure from the team, they get something small to celebrate, which can give some motivation for the whole team. Cort also managed to take a stage win later on last year despite burning matches chasing polkadays in first week.

It is nice to have stuff to do for the teams instead of just waiting for days where a breakaway might be allowed to go.

I guess they figured that Powless will be able to recover just fine in time for later break away stages.

Lafay is in his last year of contract which kind of explains his stratospheric jump from nobody to dropping Pog on Pike and next day's nuclear attack to win the stage. Do you think it's enough or are we gonna see him doing a Voekler 2011 version?

Anyways it‘s good for the French…

Now that Alaphilippe clearly has his best years behind him, and probably even won‘t get a new contract at Soudal-QS, Lafay might be the man to watch for the future…

Also the English commentators already talking that Lafay got an offer from Ineos and 5 other WT teams after his win.

Might be realistic.

A TdF stage win (mainly the first one) is an absolutely life-changing event. If you‘re smart and strong afterwards, you‘ll enjoy great decades, afterwards…

They aren’t riding hard, and he clearly isn’t riding for GC this Tour;he can keep his powder dry tomorrow before the Pyrenees.
