Tour de France 2025 route rumours and announcements

Page 26 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
The first week seems to be more clear now:

From grupetto and velowire:

"https://www.ouest-france.fr/tour-de-fra ... 3a2eb2c9d7

So the first 10 days till the restday are almost complete:

1/ Lille - Lille (sprint)
2/ Lauwin Planque - Boulogne/Mer (puncheurs)
3/ Valenciennes - Dunkerque (sprint)
4/ Amiens - Rouen (sprint or puncheur (there are a lot of hills around Rouen))
5/ CLM Caen - Caen (TT specialst)
6/ Bayeux - Vire (most likely sprint or baroudeurs or puncheurs (the distance between both city is not that big, so if ASO want they can spice the middle part of the stage with AGR kind of hills))
7/ St-Malo - Mûr-de-Bretagne (puncheur)
8/ St-Méen-le-Grand - Laval (sprint)
9/ Chinon - Châteauroux (sprint)
10/ Ennezat- Le Mont-Dore/Massif du Sancy (medium mountain stage (puncheur/baroudeurs/GC maybe))
Restday/ Toulouse
2002/2004 level dreck of a first half (stage 11 will be flat too).

2002/2004 level dreck of a first half (stage 11 will be flat too).

Especially the Toulouse finish after the rest day is strange. Probably it's about money/change for having the rest day as well.
Worse latest news predict a finish in Carcassonne on Saterday and Montpellier on Sunday. I actually can't believe that we get only flat stages in all the weekends.

If the ASO really wants they can spice things up. Very hilly final in Rouen. Double/Triple Mûr-de-Bretagne. Uphil finish in Vire with a demanding hilly mid stage part. And in stage 8 or 9 some gravel (after last years success). But that's a lot of if. Probably not all of the above is realistic to expect.

The highest hopes I have for the flat stages is something similar to stage 8 this year. Gravel would be a nice surprise, but I'm sceptical of what kind of gravel they would include. There's usually awfully many punctures in Paris-Tours, unlike in the stage to Troyes this year.

The worse thing is that mountain stages don't look all that inspiring as well. Just a block of MTF's where the last climb is the most important of the day.
I can live with a bad 1st half. I know, it's the Tour de France and 60-70% of France is pretty much flat with nothing much to offer so sometimes we'll get damp squib in the first half but at least they can make the mountain stages good.

Guillén is the antidote to the long range attacks that are boring all of us to death. His time has come.
Got you brother

TTT is probably the most stupid and wasted stage.

If they want to do time trials, how about doing decent time trials, instead of doing waisting stages by doing individual time trials of 20 km or TTT of 20/25 km?

If they want to do proper time trials, they should do a proper ITT of 50/60 km where the differences can be high, and benefit the specialists riders on that area.

If they want to do a MTT, peyragudes is a really stupid idea, because is a short climb of 20 minutes.

They should do a MTT of 40 min effort like Alpe d'huez in 2004.
It would be better doing a MTT to superbagneres.
Peyragudes is a stupid idea whether it’s a TT or not.

I guess it would be ok as TTT but that’s it. It’s a worthless climb.

Does that mean Superbagneres is gone or they're doing 3 MTF's in a row in the Pyrenees?

I guess they are thinking "well with so few mountains in the 1st week, we have to do a lot of mountain stages in the second half" but apparently hard MTF is the only way they can design mountain stages...

I guess there will be 6 mountain stages + MTT.

Normally the Tour have 6/7 mountain stages, but this time will be backloaded in the last week and half.

It's probably got something to do with Pogacar's dominance this year. A week of him dominating is probably better for the race than 3 weeks of dominance like this year.

I'd say it doesn't have anything to do with Pogacar.. They had to go through the North and West sooner rather than later and you simply don't have the terrain to do a lot of GC stages in these parts of France. I just wish they didn't only do MTFs for their mountain stages.

Besides next year's Tour should be much closer than this one. Vingegaard will probably be stronger and Visma won't have half of their team shattered.

Hautacam after Aubisque and Spandelles.
Peyragudes MTT
Superbagneres after Port de Bales

Ventoux after bunch of flat and Madeleinen't
La Plagne after some random climbs nobody gives *** about like Loze 2023
Alpe d'Huez after Croix de Fer

Book it.
Doesn't sound bad to me. Hautacam-stage was great in 2022, will be good again. If you are using Peyragudes, might as well make it into a MTT. Always liked that discipline anyways, especially if you are gonna use climbs which arent that well suited for a MTF anyways. Never seen Superbagneres and I liked Bales, so those Pyrenees i'd like.

Ventoux is Ventoux, who cares. Will always be about the last ascent and long time since we have seen a proper ascent of the climb. La Plagne I havent seen either, its a great climb. Alpe d' Huez is kinda boring, but you can pretty much only toy with going over multiple times to spice that stage up
