nah , that was not a miscalculation , he was afraid to not give Pogi another win , he's in his head 100% , the kid is done , should retire with this mentality .
It's not about being afraid it's a question of being realistic.

The last three mountain stages have all followed the same pattern. Vingegaard attacks, Pogacar follows. Repeat. Pogacar outsprints Vingegaard. The Tour is obviously gone – how do you win the stage? Valverde/Gerrans-ing it, clearly. It is boring, but it's pragmatic rather than afraid.

He went too late, and I don't think a dig lower down the climb would've harmed his legs for the final, but he was 200m out from what imo would've given him the best chance of winning

Look I'm not a Vingegaard supporter and also not a Pogacar supporter. From that perspective I do not care which one of them takes the stage.
I did hope for more competition in GC earlier, that Vingegaard would catch up. But today that of course was not at stake, he's 4 min down. Why would he attack Pogacar? The best chance he has is to let Pogacar work the climb and try beat him at the end. And Pogacar also wanted to win right?
He could attack the stage - not necessarily Pogacar.

you still have to try and go for the win , that's not a good excuse . Vingegaard leaves this TDF with no wins and some pathetic speeches after the stages , bad showing , not fitting for a TDF winner .
You really don't.

Pogacar was not willing to lose it to Vingegaard.

Vingegaard was not willing to lose it to Pogacar.

So why the hell does all the blame fall on Vingegaard?

Tour is over, it was over yesterday on the Madeleine. Vingegaard knows he can't drop Pogacar, so what's the point in dragging him to a stage win or to outsprint him in the final 200m like on Ventoux or Superbagneres or Loze.

And of course then Pogacar does not care who wins the stage. Vingegaard had to work with Pogacar to have any chance of winning the stage.

Congrats to Thymen Arensman - held the chasing wolves at bay. Two stage wins for him!

Despite Jonas Vingegaard’s surprisingly negative racing, Tadej Pogacar navigates the last realistic opportunity for Visma to unseat him before Paris. Must still stay vigilant though.

Florian Lipowitz an impressive recovery after yesterday weathered the Oscar Onley storm to increase his lead for last step on the podium.

He had plenty left--and just needed to start 200 meters sooner
Oh, the sprint - yeah, they obviously didn't calculate it to perfection. I believe Visma expected Pogacar to time it so that he could win on the last meters, but since that didn't happen, Vingegaard went down with him. I think it's fine - cycling is not only about power but also psychology.

But since Arensman already had a stage win and Pogacar has several, I'm a bit sad Vingegaard comes out of all this empty-handed, not even getting the KOM jersey.

Excellent stage, in terms of weirdness if nothing else.

Love the geniuses here losing their bearings because Vingo didn’t do exactly what he has been trying the entire tour. To drop Pogacar.

He chose a different way today, but mistimed by about 50 meters. That sucks for him, but the approach was sound.
