Definitely true. I wonder why they kept it in the race, considering Lambrecht last year. I know his death had nothing to do with the Katowice sprint but that has just been a disaster waiting to happen.

The finish has been there for 10 years and nothing happened. The sprints can be dangerous whether it's downhill or flat.

Anyway I did not see it and I think I dont want to. Hope everybody involved is allright ( not severe injuries at least).

I'm from Poland and my friend is close to the finish line, they say lot of blood in the place of the crash and ambulances on sirens are going from the place of the crash to the hospitals

Sure, exactly. That way, you judge the action rather than the effect, which will lead to more consistency I think.

It would be perfectly fine if Groenewegen was made example of. Just because similar actions with less consequences happened in the past, doesn't mean we should let this slide as well. He shouldn't see another bike race this year.

Injury wise, I think it looked more spectacular than it was for Jakobsen. An important part of the impact was damped by the barrier before he hit anything. And the helmet probably did its job too.

That spectator on the other hand was simply hit full on on the upper body/head. Scary.

the issue is not that a downhill sprint is more likely to create crashes, but that it is very likely increases the damage done if there is a crash. Top speed today was likely 20kmh higher than many bunch sprints. That’s not really desirable.

Yeah initially I thought he directly impacted the finish 'arc'. I was relieved a bit when I was him tumble across the barrier first, as weird as it feels to say that.
