7th overall gives something like 60 points in the Vuelta and it would surprise me if he doesn't end 5th or 6th.

About that, actually the 7th place gives 60 points for the World Tour Ranking.
But here we are talking about the UCI Sporting Value which is a totally different thing.

If he gets 60 points at the end of the Vuelta, he moves from the 94th place (which gives him 10 points) to the 48th place (which is only 20 points) so a 10 points gain.

Breschel hasn't proven anything yet in a real classic.

He's a classics lieutenant, the number 2 man to distract other big favourites, Boonen described him as such when Spartacus won RVV, Boonen got drained responding to all Breschel's attacks leaving Cancellara to climb the hilly Flemish panorama in peace.

Nope but even SKY have to settle for less than top 3 favourites in some of the big races. He can still win a semi classic and a few stages in world tour races. Not perfect, but it'll have to do, maybe they will sign another long shot like Devolder(maybe he's not a total long shot, but it's been a while since we sew him at his best).

yeah, like 3.5 years, he showed nothing since RvV 2009, I doubt he will ever return to his former strength. And besides, he´s not the easiest rider to work with.

True, but his last 2 seasons were also spoiled by a bad knee and injuries, I wouldn´t count him out yet.

I know he's a useful rider to have in a team for the classics and has a lot of potential, but the truth remains that he has never actually been able to prove him self in the real classics due to various reasons.

One guy who is friend of Roman Kreuziger said yesterday on zzech ES that he really is going to Saxo, would be helping Contador in Tour and get some space in his own races - now that I consider as official.
I'm happy for Kreuziger. With all regards to Vino there wasn´t anybody who could teach him as much in GT/stage races.

Nah when the local press started screaming tour contender he was probably a lost cause.

Breschel I think could still be a good choice though, not because of his chances of winning a classic but because he can lead the team while they try and develop new talent so they don't need to rush youngsters into the captains role before they are ready. Plus Danish so one of the sponsors will be happy.

Either way at this point Riis can only get someone with flaws, like Breschel who might never be more than top 10. Maybe Avermaet or Ballan feels that BMC have become rather crowded after last years signings, but I think they both have contracts to honour and they seem happy enough.

And by prove himself you mean win/podium?

Well, rather a case of pathetic racing if you want to blame Boonen, as he indeed followed every single move Breschel did. Breschel didn't look too bad that year after having won Dwars door Vlaanderen and having looked good in GW before puncturing in the finale. Boonen however should have known that the Ronde was all about Fabian.

In what way is that a pathetic excuse?

Claiming that the other team had more strong riders, had the better strategy and was basically the better team.

Sounds an awful lot like simply stating the obvious.

I think Kreuziger will do much better at Saxo. Will he win the tour? Probably not, but I think Riis has the potential to make him more consistent and a better TT'er. He is noted for doing that.

I hope so cause I totally don't understand why he didn't improve his TT over year. But Tour win? I don't think so. Especially not when there Alberto is his boss there :)

Let's put it this way, if he didn't have that mechanical in the Ronde 2010 I think he would've definitely have proven something. ;)

indeed he looked might strong on the 2010 ronde, he rode every cept boonen off his wheel on the oude k.
