For the first time in pro cycling, a team is going to hold a revolutionary testing training camp, for dozens of candidates, in order to choose its full roster of riders for its upcoming season.
Cycling Academy Team, Israel’s first pro cycling team, has chosen more than 20 riders out of 600 candidates in recent months, and invited them to 3 days of intense testing which will take place next week on the shores of Garda Lake, Italy.
The camp will take place at “Garda Bike Hotel”, located at Peschiera del Garda, on October 26-28th, 2015 (Monday - Wednesday, next week)
Team candidates will go through some cutting-edge testing, including indoor and outdoor tests, bio-mechanics analyzing and medical checkups.
“Our goal is to create a credible acceptance process for the team. We want to give a merit-based chance to riders who might otherwise go under the radar in the ultra-competitive reality of pro-cycling ” explained the team owner and founder, Ron Baron.

Margaliot claims that his team’s revolutionary approach is much more fair to the riders: “I have experienced it myself, when it comes to selecting upcoming talent, the pro-cycling world is traditionally based on ‘who knows who’, random recommendations, intense lobbying and lots of guessing. We want to change that.
Our desire is to give our riders an equal chance to prove their worth to the team in neutral conditions”.
The testing process is therefore far more than just fitness tests.
In fact, this is not even the main issue, as riders are analyzed during their off-season break.
What is being looked at is rough potential. Understanding who is ready and could really fit into the team.
In addition to performance and physiology analysis, the team will also look at the characteristics of each rider’s personality, their teamwork abilities, communication and their “fit” into specific roles.
Exceptional attention to detail is being given in the camp, with both a Bio-Mechanic and a Sports-Doctor on board, analysing the riders.
The team set the bar high, concerning sports ethics and transparency, as all the riders have been requested to gather their entire medical history ahead of the camp, where they will all be tested thoroughly.
