It's been coming, and it's here: Charlie Aldridge breakthrough.
Still an U23 (and U23 World Champion) he's had a better season in the Elites than Vidaurre, which I wasn't expecting. Two Brits in the Top 10 of a men's XC World Cup is not normal.

However, I'm not sure there's anything coming up after him in the UK; no British rider in the Top 20 of the World Cup rankings in men or women.

I quite liked the annoucer with Bart as he seemed way more knowledgeable about XC racing than Rob Warner.
Don't think either of them had their best day yesterday. Keeping an eye on the monitor would a good start.
Bart seemed to develop a parrot habit of repeating what McLaughlin had just said, he seems tense to how he was, perhaps understandable with Kate Mason.

Would be interesting to see whether the move to Discovery/WB has improved the interest of the MTB World Cup. It might take a while yet. MTB is still an alien sport for the cycle racing media, and the MTB media tend to be gravity biased.

Nino with his 9th Overall title - yet I've seen very little about it.

40 years in and its still alien to them (33 if we only count UCI WCs). If they haven't gotten it yet, they never will.

IMO, drones have improved video coverage, and should continue to improve.

Yes; the problem is most of them are roadies, and that's all they understand - though some will cover some CX in the winter because of well known names. Meaning, CX actually gets better coverage than MTB.......

Disappointed that Snowshoe has been dropped - the US surely warrants two events, and no XC at Leogang....when they have two riders who have now won XCO World Cups.
Will the UK ever get a XC World Cup? Seemingly not......
Looks like downhillers get an even more euro centric calendar, only one DH outside of Europe. I would have thought Lake Placid could support a downhill.

Enduro is an all European calendar; however, after rumours of teams pulling out, it's probably a cost cutting exercise. Trips to Australia/North America aren't exactly cheap.
enduro is even smaller (much smaller) business than XC. the starting fees went up significantly after the Discovery takeover. only handful of teams would be able to race in the US/AUS anyway... even if it would be 2 rounds within the 2 weeks and good amount of points. i don't see it branching out of Europe in the current state ever.

Enduro changing it's format this year to only one day events was a mistake - that's not what Enduro is. In all honesty, the MTB model of Enduro is just multi-stage Downhill........A far cry from what it's meant to be. It should be multi-stage off-road racing, uphill, flat, downhill.....

And it should be said, the coverage was not as good this season - but still better than XC Marathon, which was terrible.

yeah... i could do without flats in Enduro though ;)
XCM will always be terrible (TV wise) - long course simply can't be covered cheaply - the best format I can imagine is something like Cape Epic coverage at best... which still is far from ideal or dramatic.

I'd also complain about the XCO coverage - the drones addition is cool but the direction is rather subpar - we've often saw lone leader with 30+ secs for loooong periods and usually missed the battle for podium or even finish line sprints or decisive moments for 2nd/3rd place this season.

Not the World Cup, but an interesting development, and something rumoured before; Hardline Tasmania, 23-24 February 2024. Could it be the start of a Hardline series, like the Urban Downhill series?

Interesting interview with PFP on the Geraint Thomas podcast; would consider a return to some road racing after Paris 2024; but for which team?

With all the British talent that's currently coming through on the women's side, INEOS would probably have been better off by having started a team for 2023 or 24 instead of overpaying some of their male riders.

Now it sounds like they might have to do it in 2025, if they want to keep PFP around. Riders like Deignan, Shackley and Henderson are also out of contract by then.

Is the will really there? Previously, there wasn't......

We'll have to wait and see.
I don't think WT teams and/or their sponsors should be forced to invest in women's cycling, but the more that do, the worse it'll obviously look for those that choose not to.

As announced on instagram, Kate Courtney is splitting with her coach Jim Miller - but it 's all very amicable.
