Don't read that as dislike or distrust for or of JV. I like him. He's just too savvy to let something like that "slip out" unintentionally.

What I'm really waiting for is JV's revelation of his estimate of his VO2 max on his epic Ventoux climb in the Dauphiné in 1999 and also his estimate of how much of a boost he got from EPO (he seems to have hinted at 10%)

He probably got close to 25%! He even mentions 20% in his bicycling article interview. Its not the same for everybody. Some will truly only be able to gain 10% more sustainable watts with a 55% crit. Lance probably gained close to 30% more power.

Yeah I get that, there's a worthy discussion to be had here, I just thought it was funny.

Not sure how I feel about CN picking up posts by forumers and using them in their stories. I thought there were other occasions where this was done, and it was pointed out that it only happened in a thread that was specifically marked as being destined to be used as source material for a CN piece, and that they'd never do it with normal threads. This is different. I suppose it's still CN's forum and they can do what they want with what's posted here, but I fear there's a breach of trust here, if they didn't approach JV to ask for permission.

I'm worried that this will cause JV to shy away from forums forever. Then again, I suppose he only posts stuff he doesn't mind going public.

I kinda feel its abit weird.. but I guess when you state stuff on a public forum it might be used.

He must of wanted it to appear on cycling news first. I cant think how you can say those things under your own name without thinking about it for a long time.

True I concede, I don't know if they spoke to him etc. but as I also concluded, I guess when you speak under your name on a public forum you have to assume it can be used as a source..

Being quoted for cycling forum contributions that create revelations elsewhere is not new.

Floyd Landis' contribution to a cycling news (not CN) forum concerning Greg Lemond got public airing at his 2007 AAA Hearing at Pepperdine.

In stark contrast to CN over JV the owners of that forum "lost" the pages around that contribution during an outage. The forum owners had supported Floyd during his "Wiki defense".

It would appear downloads were made of that contribution before the "outage" occurred and Floyd was ambushed at the Hearing.

I do think that his statements do open up some question marks about how Garmin deals with riders who have a doping past but have not been sanctioned because they haven't been caught.

I would hope that Vaughters would answer these questions.

It would also I think be nice for Dan Benson to come and answer some of the concerns of posters about the way in which clinic material is used - especially since we are all about the push for transparency and openness.

Although to be fair - revealing that three USP riders were doping is a little bit like revealing that bears **** in the woods and that the Pope is Catholic.

Yeah not a clever move to come out in denial. If JV is outing himself and his riders, and Tyler's book has been corroborated, with Lance on the way down, the writing's on the wall.
