“Lots of things have happened to me too, but that's cycling. When Contador crashed on the descent (to Pra-Loup) we didn't know until three or four kilometres after. It happens a lot of times in races. I can remember when I crashed at the 2010 Giro d'Italia, at Montalcino. There was the incident when Andy Schleck was attacked by Contador at the Tour the other year. There are no rules….”

He doesn't have to explain this BS to anyone.
It's a race, not a teaparty said the wise Sastre once. Froome messed up his gearing, own fault. Bye!

Another whiny Chaingate. Please stop this madness!

I forgot to add that I'm really happy Nibali won today. Last 2 years I've had a love/hate relation with this rider who only seems to be able to peak at the TdF since last year, but he still always tries and always shows balls. I hope he can shine a bit more besides the TdF again though.

I guess he doesn't respect the "unwritten rules." :D
I personally don't care when riders make "cheeky" moves as long as they don't care if/when it happens to them. Let them race.

CN is implying Nibs and Froomie have never gotten along. Anyone know why?

“I won't say the words he used because they've too harsh and it's not nice to say them. He was very angry but I don't know what his problem was. Lots of things happen in a race…” Nibali said in the post-stage press conference, seemingly unworried by the attack.

“Before judging, you need to think and use your brain. We're all nervous after the stage but he (verbally) attacked me. But I didn't reply, I didn't say anything,” Nibali explained.

It seems Froome and Nibali have never had a good relationship, with events during last year's Tour de France worsening their relationship.

If Froome insists on shifting the front derailleur while spinning at 200rpm it's his own fault if his chain drops. Ok, slight hyperbole but it's a bike race and having a properly functioning bike and knowing how to use it is part of the race. They didn't give Bardet a head start because Sram are incapable of building a functioning groupset did they?
Froome says a rock got stuck in his rear brake.

The thing is, Nibali looked round and saw Froome looking down with his knees and Elbows sticking out and thought nothing of it. lol

Froome complaining because of the attack while he had a mechanical. He's trying to find excuses because today Quintana overpowered him.

Correct. Someone 8 minutes behind moves and that bothers you? Very insecure fellow. Shows his talent is not so natural. Mechanical power meter induced. Part of why the public doesn't fancy him.

We're slowing seeing the end of gentlemen's racing. This change puts more emphasis on winning at all costs at the expense of some notion of sporting chivalry. Chaingate was the last memorable example, but Nibali's attack will be remembered in a similar fashion. I do agree, tho, the move was not important to the overall classification.

Nobody waited for Gesink on Plateu de Beille when he had a flat....
Where do we draw the line? I say nowhere and please race and race hard. I can't keep on quoting Sastre, but I'll do it again.

It's a race, not a tea party.

If we want to adhere to these unwritten rules what would stop the yellow jersey wearer from faking a mechanical when in trouble?

Would be interesting to hear! But this maybe explains why Nibali did the same thing to Froome on stage 6(?).

it's not about Froome, think about it:

*Nibali attacks when he has a mecanical problem
*Froome doesn't care because he's far back in GC
*The other CG riders must wait the arrival of Froome
*Nibali takes advantage of CG rivals (places between 3 and 8)
*They (Contador/Valverde/Gesink) should be angry with him, not Froome

Bikes are part of the cycling,. as motorbikes are part of that sport...

I think Froome has a big talent, but if is true that oval plates give them 6 % more power of course he is not more talented than some other in le Tour.

Froome has always siad he didnt understand why people dont use that oval...becouse is proven an important benefit.

I rode yesterday with an ex euskaltel and he told me thay did proof, but his biomechanical took the conlcusion is not a benefit.

I think that overall of course that oval plate is not 6 % befenit, maybe sometimes in some circusntances yes, acording what I have read.

Sastre was today in Teledeporte and said just Froome, Wiggins and him won le Tour with that oval plate.

Galdeano said the previous day thay used already in ONCE, that is not new.

There is just one small part of the public that dont face him, it is always going to happen, it is not his fault...we used to spit Fignon in Spain. But he was a great champion, no doubt and that was totally incorrect.

I have more sympathy with Froome becouse all that people that say bad thing about him, or acusse without any evidence and things like that...

Although Froome is a lovely guy, for my way to understand cycling, other way I would like more Nibali or Contador, but this way no. No way, big injustice with Froome.

I disagree. They should be angry with themselves, they could have chased on. Valverde almost led the GC guys back up to Nibali before he saw how close Bala and co were so attacked again. Point 3 is false too. They don't have too. It's a choice. In the end they made the wrong one. I have zero sympathy for Froome, as you have to learn to ride a bike properly not just know how pedal to win, zero sympathy for Valverde too as the only reason because he didn't chase back on was because he couldn't. End of.

Not sure what happened last year but Nibali threw a bottle at Froome earlier in the Tour, when he thought Froome had caused a crash. Froome went on to the Astana bus to clear it up

50/50 on whether Nibali knew Froome had a mechanical or not. If he didn't, he probably simply thought Froome was struggling by slowing down, so fair enough. If he did, it's a very cheap move, it's an unwritten rule to not attack the yellow jersey when he has a mechanical and he probably knew the majority of his rivals wouldn't counter attack
