Anyway this Italian rider was punching his handle bar when Joubert cross the line, wondering is it Nibali?

It was Nibali, you can tell by the lime green helmet, he also finished at the very back of that pack. Clearly he was very disappointed.

Yeah it was him.
He sounded very disappointed when interviewed by RAI.

I'm quite disappointed as well. He looked stronger in the spring classics this year. It's true everybody was prepared for his attacks this time, but I believe he'll need a different preparation if he wants to have a shot at the Worlds next year. Colorado and Padania won't do it.

I didn't find Nibali particularly impressive yesterday. Of course it was hard to get away but I expected a lot more aggressive riding from him.

Totally agree. Nibali was never going to win attacking on the last climb, he just isnt explosive enough. Italy needed a completly fragmented race with lots of breaks going away. They didnt ride for it though

I don't understand why he was so disappointed, he said in the interview he actually was trying to lead out teammate Gatto. Oh well maybe that was just an excuse to cover his own disappointment.

I think he had hopes of taking the victory himself and was mostly disappointed that he couldn't deliver on it, after all he wasn't going in all the breakaways in Colorado for nothing. And he probably felt his chances of getting on the podium were very good after Padania.

Race was way too easy for Nibali. Next year will be a different story.

Next year he might could do the Giro- Vuelta ting again.

And peaking at the Vuelta last week is oft good for having form 2 weeks later. Especially in a climbers race where lots of the guys are gt specialists and its better to have had your peak at the Vuelta than at the Tour.

Agreed there. Hopefully that's his plan for next year.
I doubt he will have a better shot at the Worlds in his career.

I think this will definitely be his plan, at Astana he will get full leadership in the Giro (which will probably be his main goal) then he will have plenty of time to recover before using the Vuelta to prepare for worlds.

Hmmm...it's tempting. Let me think about it, but let's re-word it:

How's that?
Almost done deal.
How can we decide who shall wear the other's avatar in the Giro, when we don't know whether or not he will participate in the Tour? He could - God forbid - have an injury/ban and not participate in the Tour, even though it is the plan.

Therefore my proposal is:
A: The original terms
OR
B: The avatar period is during the Tour

I'm game for both :)
(..Let's hope Nibali isn't :p)

I was going to go for it until I read this :(

"Latest reports suggest that a long individual time trial after a week of racing will shake up the overall classification. This will suit Vincenzo Nibali –who will target the Giro d'Italia with his new Astana team"
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/2013-giro-ditalia-set-to-finish-in-brescia

So if this is a fact, no wonder you wanted to do this avatar bet. :D

Well Ryo is still certain that he will skip the Giro to ride the Tour, and he is Astana's best GC-rider.

BTW why did you want me to post it here? Why couldn't you just post your answer in this thread?

How abou this: If the rumors are not confirmed and I see/read an interview in which Vincenzo has not decided what's his calendar for next year, then we have a game on. We'd use your original terms:
If Nibali participates in the Giro next year, you will have an avatar of my choice during that Giro.
If Nibali DOESN'T participate in the Giro next year, I will have an avatar of your choice doing that Giro.

I didn't want you to post it here? We were originally in Henao's thread and then we switched to this one, the right one.

I was wondering what was going on.

Anyway, there's nothing decided about his calendar. I'm hopeful he'll skip the Tour and get a better preparation for the Worlds.
Still, it's true Astana hasn't a true leader for the Tour if Nibali is doing the Giro.

Your hope, and Netserk's are on the right track :(
Fuglsang as Tour leader, give me a break.

On a related note, Fuglsang said in another interview that he was sure that he was a "better rider than Brajkovic". I wonder what he bases that on, as Brajkovic has far better results than Fuglsang in all regards, both in significant one-week stage races and in GT's. Either way, neither of them is really good enough to lead a team in a GT...

Based on results Brakovic is better, but they are both kind of lost cause riders. Astana should have the 2 of them be the co-leaders in the tour, and have Nibali be leader in Giro and vuelta.
