Sad because Nibali wanted this Tour with Froome and Contador in the race, he was prepared to fight for the first place on the podium against them as he said just before the tour start. He dind't come here to finish 2nd or 3rd.

but he was terribly lucky that the win fell right in front of his feet, and all he had to do was reach out and grab it.

This would be a true statement if Nibali crashed on stage 21, could not continue, and Valverde won. I have watched Nibali earn this win Every Day.

Sheffield, beautiful win, fantastic psychological boost.

Rough translation, Italian Newspaper, yesterday:

"With the victory of the second stage we were few left and we tried a few different actions. I, Contador and Froome... The action with which I won the stage gave me more confidence for the next stages.""

Arenberg, smashed the GC contenders on a flat stage, Froome quits, Contador down 2:37

Gerardmer, loses 3 seconds to Contador.

PdBF, Contador crashes out while 2:34 down, Nibali wins the stage.

The rest is history.

ˆˆˆˆˆ This is how media manipulate readers. Reality is Nibali was "lucky enough' to get 2+ minutes, riding, on stage 5. :D

Of course 'lucky enough' that opponents who had big chance to beat him, fell.

Geez can we give this crap a rest for a day or so? Sure would be appreciated :)
I'll make an effort, but irresponsible comments by La Fleur couldn't go unreplied. In the end you always make your own luck :)

Being is the yellow jersey since the beginning and attacking so much might be taking it's toll on Nibali now? He looked less relaxed compared to previous days on the climb, and Pinot really seemed to hurt him.

He will still win this tdf without a prob though, but maybe not a 4th stage win though.

Just saw again Pinot attack. Niballi clearly cracked. He put is head down (like always when he is done).

You could see in the middle of the climb that he was breathing heavely, never a good sign cause he has a stone face that you barely can read. Actually thought he would crack a bit more today. Rest days can be tricky

Good. He's human. It's even better he shows these signs when it doesn't matter.

Pinot was probably making Nibali hurt some at the top. No shame in that, Pinot was probably going all out as well and he's a very strong climber.

But Nibali also probably knew he was almost at the top and didn't have to worry about Pinot.

I wouldn't read much into this.

One wonders how many minutes Nibali would have lost today to first class climbers like Froome and Contador.

Probably none, because it didn't end at the top of the climb. If they pulled away from them he would have caught back up on the descent.

Nah, being a great GC rider means you know when and where to spend your energy, he is at the top of the hill, changing the water bottle and there is a long descent ahead and Pinot is not good at it all. Why bother? It is all about the smart calculation.;)
