Maybe it's just, that it was so predictable that he suddenly would improve that much, since he's with Vino and Astana.

He's definitely as good as his fanboys have made him in the past, by now! :D

Hillarious stuff from Nibali today.

Did the Wiggins, Landis celebration too:p

That made me smile too. ;) Just waiting for Froome-dog to follow suit on Ventoux now (he'll crush them all on that stage).

Maybe Astana need to get Walsh to embed so he is blinded to the obvious

I read the tweets re Nibali's dominance and understand why many have reservations. I'm not sure and that's enough to diminish the experience

He's not sure about Nibali???????But Sky, clean! Hah!

I think someone should demand a smoking gun..though.
I think the Ferrari links are strong enough to count as a smoking gun. Or at least as a gun that's not smoking but which forensic experts say has been fired.

not sure what you guys are talking about.. was he doing more than 6.0w/kg?

Today would be a good day to look at Watts/Kilo. We're deep into a grand tour and a tough, climbing stage. Weather looked to be a factor, but not too much. What are the chances the power stats will be made for this stage's climbs?

If I recall correctly, the next couple of stages are all mountainous too.

Someone could troll and say there is no concrete evidence :D

Froome would have prob done even better than Nibali.

But ok Froome is different after all, he gradually improved right?

Anyway yea Nibali was a bit ridiculous today but he hasn't been that ridiculous in the entire giro. He was never able to drop everyone for example.

If Nibali was this strong on the other mountain stages then he would have dropped everyone if he wanted/needed.

Its possible that he was extra prepared for this stage of course.

I'll trust wiki on this:

VAM = (metres ascended x 60) / Minutes it took to ascend

1018 metres ascended

1018 * 60 = 61080

Minutes it took to ascend: 44'29" (44.5 minutes)

VAM=61080 / 44.5 = 1372.6 Vm/h

Wiki:
Relative power (Watts/kg) = VAM (meters/hour) / (Gradient factor x 100)

To work out the gradient factor take 2 + (% grade/10)

Gradient: 1018 / 20600=0.04942 * 100% = 4.942%

4.942% / 10 = 0.4942
0.4942 + 2 = 2.4942

1372.6 / (2.4942 * 100) = 1372.6 / 249.42 = 5.5 W/kg

I guess this is not correct:D:D I should probably leave out the flat/downhill part

Nibali knows better than to try riding everyone off his wheel early in a grand tour. The TT was the right place to try to distance his rivals and wow did he do that.

Here's a second try on the numbers from today. The results looks very suspect for Nibali winning on bread and water.

Remove the flat sections using 45 km/h as average speed and make the calculation again. I did it quickly and found something near 6.2-6.3 for 37 minutes (71kg rider+bike)

As much as I love Nibbles, I'm forced to agree.

Although I guess the competition was weak and no one else peaked properly.

This. As much as i like Nibali he clearly took another step with this program this year.

It still is more believable than Froome and Wiggins mind you :p
