The french riders did seem a bit too close to call this a mutant performance by Nibali. Porte also appears weaker than when he was toying with the field on bonsacre last year.

Porte is nothing like he was last year. Since that stomach flu he's been regular Richie. So much for Brailfords claim that he'd been climbing faster than the Dawg.

It's Nibali's tour to lose now. No doubt he'll crash and pull out giving Porte the victory!

Via PRR section, I expect the clinic posters would be able to tell more about this.

Not sure how reliable it is, but according to gazzetta.it Nibali was actually 8 seconds faster than Froome in the last 5.8 kms on the same climb and now holds the record for the highest VAM ever recorded at the Tour (1872).

Any truth to that? Is it even relevant?

How accurate is it?

vetoo has Nibali at 16:45 and jens' blog has him at 16:44, apparently Froome was 16:20 so we will have to see which is correct ...

That is wrong, they must be timing from the wrong start point

I wonder what the timing is compared to Froome from the moment he attacked to the final.

Froome rode he lead group up the climb then attacked off the front for the win. Well Cadel tried an attack and Froome just went for it.

Just for fun.

That would be an interesting figure.

In 2102 the route was easier, the result was the main bunch was much larger at the base of the climb. Sky had 4 guys riding in front of Froome, watching their SRM's, gradually shredding the field.

Given the variables their performances are pretty close

Nibali incredibly mediocre all season, and then in no time to superhuman form in Le Tour.

Smells of an LA/Schleck move. Absent all season and then super in only the Tour.

But what about the tailwinds?

Vincenzo

Call me a cynic, but with Froome and Alberto gone and Vincenzo clearly the strongest rider, as we have Porte in 2nd place, whats the chance of Vincenzo being pulled from the race before the end ? by some old doping questions aka Krausinger !!

Nahhh, in the New Open/Transparent reign of Cookson, we get to wait around for 2 or 3 years, & then check the pdfs on the UCI website to see if the 2014 TdF has a new winner
