Not disputing that. But to say he showed more potential to contend with Roglic here because he was allowed in breaks (albeit he was very impressive in them) while Mas was grinding his way into form and the Top 5 is a bit unfair.

Everybody is expecting Roglic to run out of steam... He is having awfully long season to be at the top of his form... That's why most are hyping up Carapaz to be main contender... With Mas I expect him just to do his thing, follow the wheels and not crack over the course of next 17 days... Given his climbing ability and this year's Vuelta parcours, he can get a podium spot with that... He just isn't as "exciting" to watch as Carapaz;)

The first stage has made a lot clear already. There are three favourites: Roglic, Carapaz and Mas. They're also the leaders of the three strongest teams: Jumbo, Ineos and Movistar. A nice surprise is the presence of Esteban Chaves in that first group. The reborn Colombian can provide some fireworks in the mountain stages.
Don’t forget that Dan Martin is in good enough shape to stay with the gc group, so will be throwing in mental attacks throughout the race that others in the gc group will have to respond to.
