He'll lose time in TT but he can Hindley himself in the top-3 for sure

But this year's ITT isn't so bad... The finish climb is too short to work in his benefit, but he might not lose as much as if it was a straight up flat ITT.

Not disputing that. But to say he showed more potential to contend with Roglic here because he was allowed in breaks (albeit he was very impressive in them) while Mas was grinding his way into form and the Top 5 is a bit unfair.

Everybody is expecting Roglic to run out of steam... He is having awfully long season to be at the top of his form... That's why most are hyping up Carapaz to be main contender... With Mas I expect him just to do his thing, follow the wheels and not crack over the course of next 17 days... Given his climbing ability and this year's Vuelta parcours, he can get a podium spot with that... He just isn't as "exciting" to watch as Carapaz;)

Is it not too soon for Jumbo to take the leader’s jersey? I could’ve sworn they said....

The first stage has made a lot clear already. There are three favourites: Roglic, Carapaz and Mas. They're also the leaders of the three strongest teams: Jumbo, Ineos and Movistar. A nice surprise is the presence of Esteban Chaves in that first group. The reborn Colombian can provide some fireworks in the mountain stages.
Don’t forget that Dan Martin is in good enough shape to stay with the gc group, so will be throwing in mental attacks throughout the race that others in the gc group will have to respond to.

Let's hope he's good enough to do that. I'd always liked his aggressive style, but I fear he doesn't have the legs for it anymore.
He did well today though.

Could be, but its the typical up and down terrain. Very hard. A terrain for a breakway.

Yeah, every year sprinters who havent been there before discover the meaning of Vuelta Flat and they dont like it. That said I’m expecting more Vuelta Flat stages to end in sprints than usual because Bora and DQS have both brought quality sprint teams.

lol a Kelly shutting down every moronic take from Kirby, usually dont listen to the English commentary, but its on eurosport player, how can anyone stand Kirby, he just talks nonsense all day

Do you remember David Duffield on Eurosport? I think Kirkby bases some of his act on him.
I preferred Duffield to Lance Liggett though.

Woah, Dan Martin in 3rd place. Something I did not expect to see after TDF.
I kind of expected it, tbh. His progression in the Tour was quite dramatic, and he even looked like the strongest rider in the break the day when they had to ascend Col de laMadeleine and Col de la Loze, only to be let down by his poor descending.
