I must say Vuelta 13 route is better than I expected, but I could a agree about the bads.


The TTT is 30 km, to me is a good choice but they spoil the 38 km ITT with that 3rd cat climb

Mega lol at Monte da Groba getting the same categorisation as Port de Balès.

When I laughed at that I hadn't yet found out Monte Naranco was category 1. LOL. I thought it was strange enough when Urkiola got it, but that's as steep as Peña Cabarga and a similar length. This is a kilometre longer than those two, but barely half as steep.

There are six "hilltop" finishes, make two proper hilly/MM stages and 2 nothing stages and it would be a pretty decent route.

what bothers me is that most of the people in my TL seem to think lots of mtf = a good race. What they don't understand is that it was good last year because Alberto attacked a lot. And this year he won't race it. So it will be Jrod all the way and there isn't a thing that's exciting about seeing Jrod sprint away with 1k to go every other freaking stage.

IMHO there are some mountain stage that don't suit him, even the hilly ITT reminds me Fuente De.

In the end, a lot better than expected. I really didn't see a stage like the one to Peyragudes coming. Still non-sufficient TTing and too many uphill sprints. I suspect the profiles make many climbs seem steeper than they really are, but overall this is a huge improvement with respect to the last Vueltas

Yes and no. At the Giro he was a little bit short to outclimb Hesjedal clearly. He had ups and downs and lost in the last and short ITT.

At the Vuelta he was at his best form, and Froome was clearly off form and Contador lacked race days. There wasn't properly climber stages. But uphills finish and many single climb stages.

Despite the 3rd cat climb the ITT it's 38 km long and the "french" stage it's not for Purito if a great climber is there.

Anyway he wants to do the Tour and hasn't a team right now so it's too soon to discuss about the external factors

The ITT in 2012 was almost 40kms, so there is not much difference in that aspect, although the course this year is in a windy area. As for the great climbers, it's too early to say but I doubt any of the best will peak for the Vuelta.
