So then there were 4 candidates left.
Nibali
Purito at 4 seconds
Mosquera at 50
Tondo at 50

With that ITT still to go, Nibali is the clear favorite.

Great riding in the Vuelta, but you don't get to see it. Who produces the coverage? Spanish national broadcasting? How can it be so bad? This is the EU. Not western Mongolia.

I suggest his problem is that he no longer has the legs -- a tough season, and long run of form is ending i believe.

I really, really hope Rodriguez can keep this level and Mosquera and Tondo are a bit better on the longer climbs. Otherwise this Vuelta isn't much exciting as it looks.

Bah, it really really really sucks Anton dropped out :(

Rodriguez is good on steep climbs, Nibali has the advantage now for tomorrows stage.

Ps: No hate threads for no one waiting for Igor Anton? Sure he didn't step back in the race but they didn't knew that when he just fell! (sarcasm)

Martinez & Anton touched wheels apparently (CN live report)

15:15 GMT

It seems as though there was a touch of wheels between Anton and Martinez at around 65kph.

Martinez is being stretchered into an ambulance.

Anton is sitting in the passenger seat of the team car and his Vuelta is also over.

Looks to me as if it was EE touching wheels, but in time, we'll know for sure.
Awful crash aside, this Vuelta is delivering better fare than the Tour, despite what LS would have us believe!

Menchov only about 10 minutes down, today.

Antón has a broken elbow
That's what I thought. I was a bit surprised he didn't even try to get on the bike. He looked a bit too calm, too. Oh well, I guess there's no point making a scene when the end result is unavoidable and you know it. A shame.

Great rides by Terpstra, Purito and Nibali. I expected a bit more from Mosquera but today's climb didn't suit him as well as the Lagos, so tomorrow should be interesting.
