For reasons best known to himself, he was hanging around the back of the peloton before yesterday's final climb too. I'm not sure if the crash today was actually near the back though.

It doesn't matter that it was near the back, or in the middle. The leader always need to stay at the front.

my question is WTF Anton was doing in the back of the peloton?-really a pity to exit the vuelta in that way....

Different sources mention touching wheels with a team mate. They weren't at the back according to Mosquera.

He was not in the middle. The crash was near the front, but most of the peleton managed to avoid it, cause the road was wide enough.

No mention on the official site of Bruseghin retiring. Theyre down to number 98 now. Maybe he has been missed.

He's been missed before. If he comes 3rd in Madrid and tries to get on the podium I bet the organizers won't let him.

Yes we know that but we are wondering how much time he lost/whether he has retired:)

I thought I saw him throwing the towel. But I can be mistaken because I was focussed on Anton.

Yes I noticed this from the front shot and was surprised keenan missed it on the commentary here, orange shirt went down near the front probably just behind the team (katusha was it) running the pace at the time.

Moondance!!! ???

I think the mods banned the wrong Dutchman. Dekker Tifosi. 3 days of blowing his horn saying how right he is. 7 days of none stop – Nibali cant climb Nibali cant climb. He will lose minutes on every climb. Bla bla bla. Im the best. Im the best. Nibali will never win a gt. Never. Never ever ever ever ever. Im the best. I get everything right.

;)

I thought I was imagining things because the Spanish commentators missed it too.

Did Urán crash too?

Frank Schleck just said on TV that Anton was right behind him when he crashed, but he didn't turn around to look, because they were going at 80 km/h

I don't think he did, at least not right away. I thought the reason for Caisse d'Epargne not featuring on the climb at all was that some of them waited for him. If they did, then he obviously kept got back on his bike and they thought they should still stick with him as their best bet for the GC, because of his time trial skills. Just my speculation though.

Barring falls or accidents. That's logical no?

In this case nobody is right. So... go away

What crowds. I think this is the contador effect.

ANd what a turn of events for purito. It was over. He had blown his 3 chances at a stage win. Now if he can keep this form, he could yet win this.

I really really hope Mosquera can do something on the steeper climbs. Vamos eze. Needs 50 seconds. probably 2 mins counting the tt.

Ok. so say Anton doesnt crash. Nibali comes 3rd. He doesnt lose minutes to everyone. He can climb. Not how i remember it.
