Money was the motivation behind the comeback. Money will be the driver of the settlement. Take a hit, say you doped, and toss Weisel under the bus. Sell the jet, a house or two, and do infomercials for ShamWow and sell bracelets on QVC.

You bring up a good point in that I have no memory of him doing so many events. He's doing something like two a week I would say. I just thought he was being charitable.

No one in Balco besides Jones had a positive public image they had to protect.

I would think that Armstrong himself is considering that very question. His enormous ego won't easily permit him to make any admissions of doping and lying, but above all I suspect he'll want to secure a legacy as a champion and philanthropist. If the investigation accumulates enough evidence, he cannot have it both ways.

BALCO also stopped the distribution of an illegal steriod that stood a chance at getting even wider distribution. All of that within US borders. This case could be significant in that it would establish better cooperation between enforcement agencies of other countries to prevent international distribution.

While we think Lance is a big story (and he is) the control of prescription drugs is a security issue for all countries IMO. That a rogue country could distribute something willingly across borders is certainly not on everyone's mind but it would be if a tainted element cause widespread illness.

It depends who flips first. If you tell the truth you get a "Get out of Jail free" card. I think Knaggs as he is still married with kids. Jeff Spencer has already testified. Stapleton's ex-wife cleaned him out so he may roll the dice. Don't be surprised if the investigation goes back way farther and deeper then people think. This is something that stretches over 2 decades.
