Financially Armstrong is about to hit an inflection point that could be very painful. He lives big, and expensive. The Jet, the houses, the baby mommas. Add to this the Fabricator at $30,000 per month and $100,000 a month in legal fees. It all adds up.

As his popularity drops his demand as a speaker falls. Existing sponsors are not renewing. Large sponsors like RadioShack are in the final year of their agreement and will be gone in a year. Add to this Armstrong has been an aggressive investor for years and like many aggressive investors he got hit hard the last few years.

Money was the motivation behind the comeback. Money will be the driver of the settlement. Take a hit, say you doped, and toss Weisel under the bus. Sell the jet, a house or two, and do infomercials for ShamWow and sell bracelets on QVC.

You bring up a good point in that I have no memory of him doing so many events. He's doing something like two a week I would say. I just thought he was being charitable.

You don't think Novitzky is afraid of these pus$y's?

Why on earth would Novitzky be afraid of shaven legged lycra wearing pro cyclists?

It is not like Novitzky is investigating an International Heroin Smuggling Operation run by mobsters lol.

I was talking about the loyal fans of the cheating pro cyclists.

I understand female groupies. Can you explain male groupies?

It doesn't matter at all, the question is will LA be Clemens/Bonds or A-Rod/Big Papi? If he continues down the road that he has in the past by attacking everybody he will be the former. If he shuts up and cuts a deal he will be the latter. He can't possibly be stupid enough to not see what happened to all the one who perjured themselves, its not possible. He will let others take the rap though, I don't doubt that for a minute.

But did Clemens, Bonds, A-Rod etc market themselves as 'inspiring hope' or as some miracle?
This is what will hurt Armstrong - the taking apart brick by brick of the lies and deceit he has built up.

I agree that others will be more exposed to the risk of jail time or penalties.
Weisel, Och, Stapleton etc as they will be tied in to the financial side.

All those sitting on the edges of their seats awaiting the end of this saga should take a look at the timeline of Balco and Thomas' involvement. Lied in 2003, indicted in 2006, went to trial in 2008, and the big dawgs in that case are still going around.

Maybe, but the dragging this out aspect hurts Armstrong more than anyone else.

No one in Balco besides Jones had a positive public image they had to protect.

It all depends on Armstrong's cash flow, as Race Radio pointed out.

I would think that Armstrong himself is considering that very question. His enormous ego won't easily permit him to make any admissions of doping and lying, but above all I suspect he'll want to secure a legacy as a champion and philanthropist. If the investigation accumulates enough evidence, he cannot have it both ways.

She lost her appeal in July, 2010. As a result she is unable to practice law since she has a felony perjury charge.

buckwheat, do the maths....

Lance could retire TODAY and still maintain his lifestyle for about 400 years.

I'm interested to know if drug-Strong is finally caught, would the tour de france organization, hand over the 7 victories to Zulle, Ullrich x3 , Beloki, Kloden, and Basso ? If that is the case, Ullrich would be a 3 time winner.. wow  I wonder what those 2nd place finishers are thinking ?

99 would go to Christophe Bassons, 2000 - 2005 would have no winner.

Pacificslim, please take your horse$hit back to the Pharmstrong fanboy section of the internets.

Nice perversion of what I wrote.

I was addressing fanboy nonsense, such as yours, ie. not real fans; as opposed to little kids and others riding for pleasure, real fans.

Ow, buckwheat you hurt my one feeling. Its FAN-MAN to you. You notice Eddy Merckx, Andy Schleck and I wear the yellow LIVESTRONG bracelets. That is not co-incidence it is because we hate cancer and are champions.

Like I said do your Saturday morning morning City limit sign sprints and crow about how you "did it clean" to the 65 year old ladies at the coffee shop.

Don't underestimate someone so skilled in PR.

'I won the first few clean, and was forced to dope to compete at the highest level, and therefore continue to provide a role model for cancer survivors.'
'The good that was done by inspiring hundreds/thousands/millions/bajillions of cancer victims far outweighs my doing what everyone else was doing.'
'Just leveling the playing field in order to keep getting the message out.'

et al, ad nauseum

If (or when) LA goes down, the fall might not be as precipitous as many believe he deserves.

BALCO also stopped the distribution of an illegal steriod that stood a chance at getting even wider distribution. All of that within US borders. This case could be significant in that it would establish better cooperation between enforcement agencies of other countries to prevent international distribution.

While we think Lance is a big story (and he is) the control of prescription drugs is a security issue for all countries IMO. That a rogue country could distribute something willingly across borders is certainly not on everyone's mind but it would be if a tainted element cause widespread illness.

Good post. For anyone interested in the points made in the above quote, I suggest the book "Global Outlaws-Crime, Money, and Power in the Contemporary World"" by Carolyn Nordstrom. It puts into sobering perceptive the trafficking of legitimate and counterfeit pharmaceuticals and their level of importance in the global economy.

Novitzky himself will be wearing a LiveStrong bracelet by the end of the witch hunt / fishing expedition. (assuming he learns a thing or two about Pro Cycling).:)

Fixed that for you.

It would support my lifestyle for a lot longer than 400 years lol.

Granted, I have a bikeshop, which can turn a large fortune into a small fortune - but even my lifestyle would barely eat into the interest on Lance's NestEgg, let alone use any of the nestegg itself.

This would be true - but do you really think LA will want his 'charity' exposed to scrutiny and why he personally benefited to 42% of the Demand Media licensing of the Livestrong brand?

Agreed but I was just wondering if there could be anyone else?

Huh? I haven't said a thing in this thread. What are you talking about? And for the record, I don't care for Armstrong and never have. I care slightly less for Novitsky though, ha!

It depends who flips first. If you tell the truth you get a "Get out of Jail free" card. I think Knaggs as he is still married with kids. Jeff Spencer has already testified. Stapleton's ex-wife cleaned him out so he may roll the dice. Don't be surprised if the investigation goes back way farther and deeper then people think. This is something that stretches over 2 decades.

If you lie, you go to jail. Armstrong does not have friends, he has employees. Nobody is going to jail for Wonderboy.

That reminds me of the old saying: Be nice to people on your way up because you might meet (need) them on your way down.
