 That's great for the race. GB going in with a super strong team for the flat, reeling in every break or interesting attack - all for a rider that has no chance of winning.

Germans and Australians will have similar teams for Degenkolb and Matthews/Gerrans who admittedly have better chances than Cav.
Yeah, it's fair enough for them. Both teams have two guys with a genuine chance of winning the race in a bunch finish. Given the course and the interest of some teams to keep the race together, it's shaping up to be quite a boring race.

With Thomas, the Yates brothers, maybe even someone like Rowe, GB has strong riders who could really animate the race, and maybe even stay away for the win. Cav has no chance on this kind of finish from a bunch against Deg/Matthews/GVA/Sagan..

Shocked at the GB announcement, ridiculous decision.

Having said that it appears Cav may not make the worlds so it should change. Yates twins please!!

Yates not selected as they went to Orica and not Sky.

How did you become such a Craddock fan? Just curious since he's fairly local for me. Some guys I ride and race with know him, though I've never talked to him myself. I'm happy he made it to the WT. He's been in results and cycling articles around these parts for years. I figure at some point he might show up at the local crit the same week as me and I'll get to race against him.

Spain long-list (14 at the moment):

Alejandro Valverde, Ion y Gorka Izagirre, José Joaquín Rojas, Imanol Erviti, Juan José Lobato, Jonathan Castroviejo, todos del Movistar Team; Joaquim Rodríguez, Daniel Moreno y Ángel Vicioso (Katusha), Ángel Madrazo y Lluis Mas (Caja Rural-RGA), Luis León Sánchez (Astana) y Rubén Plaza (Lampre-Merida).

Purito finally decided that he would go; not sure what role he will play on this course though. LLS & Castroviejo will both do the TT and road race.

Nah, they aren't selected because Chavendouche wants another rainbow jersey and needs support, not riders who are only useful attacking.

I can understand to an extent not picking the Yates twins. They aren't realistically going to win on the course and they won't contribute much for anyone else. Although the experience they would gain and immersion in the British team would help for the future.

What I don't understand is why they are not going all in for Thomas instead of Cavendish. Thomas was the strongest classics rider in the world for a two week spell this spring (and probably would have done a lot better at RVV and PR if the ludicrous Wiggins wasn't hanging around). GB don't have anyone that can realistically win from a group, but they've got a guy who could conceivably win solo; especially if he has a big team with him to make it a really hard race.

I'm surprised that they even picked Thomas. If he was relatively fresh I'd agree with every word you said but he's had a long season - Paris/Nice, full classics campaign, Tour de Suisse, Tour de France (where he was so strong that the first two weeks he could do whatever he wanted) and now the Vuelta.

I think he could recover fine; he's been soft pedalling the Vuelta, just to keep the form ticking over I think. His programme this season hasn't been too different to Sagan or Degenkolb - and they are the two outright favourites for the race.

Kristoff and Sagan are the two big favorites, but yeah, Kristoff has been doing a lot of racing this year as well (more than Sagan and Degenkolb, I think). I think you're right about Thomas.

I think because I got attracted by the whole Bontrager/Bissel/Axeon project some years ago and instantly wanted those guys to do well. They seemed like the most promising riders the US had to offer, even Phinney had come from a previous incarnation of that team. Now, I wasn't that big a fan, nor did I really care much for the American scene. I remembered Craddock finishing third in the Juniors Paris-Roubaix and the Trofeo Karlsberg, because the Portuguese national team was there and I wanted to see how they did. It was obvious then that he had quite the engine, then two years later he was also showing himself ot be a very good climber with his performances in the Gila and Cali, whilst still 21. Before that he had already come second in the ITT Nationals. And was then 5th in the U23 WCITT. He's been one of my favourites since then but since last year and now this he's grown bigger on me, can't really tell why. He's not the usual climber, rather has a big engine that helps him power up mountains, and I like that. There are probably many more like him, so I guess it's a bit irrational. I'm okay with it.

If you ever do a crit with him ask for an autograph. Ta. :p

Maybe the whole Cavendish thing is in fact a distraction for Thomas? I agree GB's best option is him attacking solo, so a tactical masterstroke would be to use the other 8 spots for seemingly Cavendish's sprint train...

But that seems too good to be true.

I'm pretty sure that Polish squad hasn't been mentioned yet on this forum. This time we were short of points and will send "only" six riders:
Michał Kwiatkowski, Rafał Majka, Michał Gołaś, Maciej Paterski, Tomasz Marczyński, Maciej Bodnar
Individual Time Trail:
Maciej Bodnar and Marcin Białobłocki

Preidler to support Haller, Eisel to support whoever leads Great Sky

1. does he genuinely do that?
2. he broke his shoulder or something in Canada so no worlds for him anyway.

He did at the London Olympics and I guess he would still do it for Thomas and Cavendish.

shouldn't they get 7 guys. The 6 they got from their points+kwiatek as extra cause he's defending champ?

After 1 day of thinking I still didn't see what Carlos Alzate did in this year or in his entire career to deserve a participation in the Worlds.

Not to speak of the exclusion of Rubiano and Duque, who adapt better to the parcours than some of the ones who were chosen.
