Right now I am taking a poll as to whether trainer miles count - two to one says they do.:)

Trainer miles should count for extra - just for the pure tedium of sitting on your bike inside knowing that there are other folks on this forum enjoying riding their bike in fresh air, mountains and seaside!

When I ride the trainer in a cold garage staring at the space where a TV should be... I definitely count those miles!!

I was happy not to be on the trainer today, BUT, it was extremely cool for California riding in the fog on the way out and the way back from the foothills. However, I got my 5,000 miles that I was shooting for this year.

I think there should count more just because you never get to draft, coast, or stop to regroup at the top of a climb!

With little snow and cold temps, we have some epic ice riding right now on the coast of Maine. 3 hours yesterday in temps that ranged from 18 F to 28 F. Trails had a nice tamped down lane of ice made by walkers. Toes and fingers got a little chilled at first but it was worth it. When we get a good dump of snow it's back to the trainer and cc skis.

Took the old steel framed Schwinn Premis out today - great ride - temps in the high 50s. The somewhat modern components really make a difference in the ride - exchanged down tube 6 speed shifters for a 9 speed STI along with Race X lite wheels > the end result leaves you with a very smooth ride:)

Hammer fest or hill climb. Not sure which will win. I had 8 days off the bike due to me going away for some work and I had my first ride today, and I did not lose much form, just a bit of fitness. I will be riding very well within a week. And when I was away for work, I managed to lose at least 2kg, considering I ate a lot and was drinking beer every night.

Tomorrow will be the Christmas Eve holiday ride (unless a couple of friends out there convince me to get out for a longer ride somewhere) - minimum of 30 miles for tomorrow - likely will be the standard loop (30 miles with two small hills in the middle (450 feet and 350 feet of elevation).

Today I did my bunch ride and we rode up our favourite 6.5km mountain climb, with 3 another 3km of climbing before you turn onto the the mountain, I dropped the bunch after 2.5km on the 3km climb, and then rode up the mountain in 1st spot once again. One guy got within 100m of me, but he cracked, and when I finished, another bloke came in 3 seconds down, but I had no idea he was behind me. In all the times I have ridden the mountain in the bunch, I have dropped everybody and got up there in 1st spot. Not bad for a guy is 6ft 2'' and is 77/78kg.

Have to be at a bike shop tomorrow morning to get a head set repaired. It is about a 28-30km ride to get there (the way I will go), but since that is at a 8.30am, I might leave early enough to take a detour up a mountain I haven't ridden in more then 3 years.

Looking for a 30 mile ride in the foggy cold tomorrow, getting started around 11 am so I can spend a little time with my youngest before she goes to her mom's.

Rode 101km and rode up the mountain that I hadn't done in a few years. Rose up it with Danny Clark. For a guy who is 59, he is still very strong and made me look like Santiago Botero in the Alpes and Pyrennes of the 2003 TdF.

Going down hill was a nightmare as the road was very rough and you have to take a hand off the handlesbars for a second to shake your hand, because the vibrations become too much. Then at the bottom of the climb is a stetch of road that they have dug up, and riding over it feels like iI'm doing a section of pave at Paris - Roubaix.

Short quick couple of loops around Diamond Head and I'll probably throw myslef into the pool. Got to get this gunk shaken out of the chest, damn germs on flights, I really haven't the energy for a proper ride.

craig, let a few lbs of air out of your tyres before going down that stuff. Hope you have nice 3-cross wheels as well.

I will be riding in low 40 degree weather on Sunday into the foothills - better than the rain that we have had for the past week (and the flu I had before that)
