and also, curious that ASO did not yet manage to establish the US monument classics (organised by them, of course)

ASO provides the production. they are getting paid for these expansion races.

it seems like the promoter, aeg, likes the race regardless of it's probable money loser. int
etested to know if there is testing and who is doing it.

First time I ever heard Californian food being described as superior to Italian food.

You didn't know that generic minced up offal wedged in a tasteless bun is far superior to a vast variety of home cooked recipes made from fresh produce?
Plus, pasta is useless as fuel for the hungry cyclist.:D

Wiggins PR lessons are paying of, I bet he will call the Tour of Austria a bigger one then il Giro next year after 'checking his VHS tapes'...

What a goose.

So you're digging up a year old interview why?

He never said the ToC was a bigger race than the Giro, did he? He stated it was his aim at the start of the season, then ruled out switching to the Giro after Porte and then Kennaugh dropped out. And the sponsors wanted him at the ToC.

And if he is a goose or not why bring it up here, there's a thread in the road racing forum, there's absolutely no relevance to any debate over Wiggins' doping, it's just more venting by people that don't like his character. Whether you like him or not is irrelevant to the issue of doping.

Off topic basically, just more character assassination.

Wiggins committed character suicide a long time ago, in fact he has dug it up quite a few times and killed it again and again.......;)

Lol very true, although some of us find that amusing. Still a person's character has no relevance here. Nice guys dope too.

however

i agree with the premise

however, by making a faustian pact with a hypodermic to dope. you need to commit to a staccato pattern of mistruths, lies and dishonesty.

No they don't. The people I know who have walked away or got far less out of the sport than they deserve, are really nice guys. The "nice guys who dope" are the t *****s who pretend to be nice and take in either the naive or the shrewd with their very sophisticated regimen of fraud.

The Michael and Dede Barry story is one of those cases. Don't say they are nice, just because they really did a great job of conning us. They did a really great job of conning us because they are complete - ****s

Sorry but that's just a slightly hysterical rant. It simply isn't as black and white as that, there are many shades in life. Bad decisions, peer pressure, pressure from the teams, pressure to make a career, to provide for a family. Sure some have revelled in their cheating but others cheated and became victims instead.

It's an ugly, dirty game, and good people got sucked into too.

And my point was that trying to judge someone's character from afar, from snippets in the press, isn't relevant to whether they dope or not.

I agree James.

Riders chosing that Great Tour Of California above il Giro, right on. Putting up a laughable Giro Squad, a more than pathetic Liege Bastogne Liege Squad, I see a clear pattern of total disrespect for the cycling classics, this while Wiggi loves his old Giro VHS tapes.

Total BS. A friend of mine spent 3-4 years on conti and pro conti teams before getting disillusioned with the state of pro cycling and retiring at the ripe old age of 23.

Anyhow, in his last year as a pro he was riding with a small group of pros around Como-Lecco including a couple of WT riders when he slid out on a descent and lost consciousness for several minutes. One of the WT riders was not only the first to stop traffic and call the ambulance but also rode with him to the hospital, calling his emergency contact on the way and didn't leave until they arrived.

He then checked in on my friend a few days after he was discharged from hospital.

The WT riders name?

Ivan Basso.

A doper CAN be a good person overall too.

Surely Chris Horner proved this once and for all at last years Vuelta?

I'm amazed that there can be any debate here :D
