Don't get me wrong, I enjoy cross much more than track, but once they're on the road I couldn't care the slightest what they achieved on the track/cross. Only results on the road count for me then.

As for Brad being a legend, he won one actual race that isn't a time trial.

What's next, talking about Pippo's roller blade hockey results?

Wiggins is already a legend.

Maybe not the Merckx, Anquetil, Indurain, Hinault, Coppi kind of legend, but objectively his Olympic track medals and Tour win are all he needs.

If Wiggins is a legend then so are Boonen, Alberto, Phil, Cancellara, Vino, the list is long

They will all go down in the pantheons of the sport. All have won some combination of multiple monuments/WCs/GTs.

They may not transcend the sport, nor may they go down in the list of the top 10 or 20 of all time, but they will be featuring in 'best of all time' long-lists for a long time to come.

There's 'legends' as in people whose names go down in the pantheon of the sport, and there's 'legends' as in people whose names are known and revered by all fans of the sport for all time. Wiggins might never be one of the latter group, but he's in the first. After all, he joins a select group of people to have won Olympic medals AND the Tour de France.

He may be one of those guys that, 20-30 years down the line, is only remembered by the scholars of the sport and his compatriots, but even that is good enough.

And generally it was decided that

Contador would be remembered (Lots of GT wins)
Boonen (Lots of monument wins + records)
Cavendish (Lots of stage wins)

Interesting subject, a bit OT here, got a link? I guess a good way of figuring out who will be remembered is look back at the 80s, 90s, 00s, etc...and see who we remember ;-) All TDF winners for sure so Wiggins makes the cut!

The 2 names that will ring out from this era will be boonen for 4 prs and contador for all 3 gts. Wiggins too if he does all 3 but Contador more cos he won more. Then cav if he continues winning for the tdf stage record and maybe gt stage record.

Contador is likely to go down as one of the greatest GT riders of all time by the time he unscrews his cleats. The fact that anyone actually mentions Wiggins in the same sentence as him amuses me greatly.

Wiggo could win the Giro if he put the effort in, cant see that happening though. Froome obviously would have to be even stronger than he was in July for the Tour next year if he wants to beat Contador.

Still not sure what he plan is for JTL, if Sky want him to be a GT rider then he should do either the Giro or Tour as a helper for Wiggo/Froome to see how he copes with a big 3 week race.

Wiggins has no chance in the Giro. The Italian riders will attack like crazy and Wiggins freight train acceleration on the steep inclines will make him lose a lot of time, much more than what can happen in the TDF.

Hmmm. That's Sutton's view. I can see where he's - coming from - Wiggins certainly won't win TDF next year. personally I can't seen him winning the Giro or the Vuelta, but it makes better sense to target them. Can't see Froome winning TDF tbh unless Contador breaks a leg, goes down with cholera or something equally devastating or decides he can't be bothered (none of which are likely). To say nothing of a few other riders who might have an interest.....

Will Brailsford and the rest of the Sky management feel the same way though? I'd have thought they want the publicity Wiggins will generate in July.
