Was Anquetil convicted of defrauding the government too? Because that's what we're taking about. IF Lance is convicted, will he lose his titles? That's the question.

If you are not talking about doping then why would you suggest that he would lose his titles if he was convicted of fraud in a foreign country. (not that he will be convicted of course) If he was not convicted of any doping offence why would they take titles from him. If he was convicted of assault would you expect them to?

If they were going to take Armstrong's titles from him they would have to negate all of the Tour results for the past 100 years. The so called "dark years" were operating even before Armstrong was born. Anquetil even admitted to doping but still retained his trophies and results.

If Landis has no solid proof, would anyone inside a courtroom believe him after what he has already admitted. I cannot see any possible way for Armstrong to lose the court case unless somone has something up their sleeve (no pun intended) that will rock the sport on it's foundations.

This should go to the clinic section. I bet they don't find anything...maybe hearsay testimonies from Landis?

It's not about "fraud," but the government has been trying to nail Barry Bonds for how many years now for perjury in front of congress, and they have yet to pull it off. Not even put in front of a Grand Jury. It's VERY premature to be talking about this.

I guess we could be talking as to whether Contador or Schleck will be the greatest TdF winner in cycling history, and that answer could finish sooner than anything comes down with Lance.

Ha ha I like your last paragraph, probably very true.:)

But you have to realise that Lance is the fuel for these forums and for many it's a case of Guilty until proven Guilty.

But yes Lance will keep all of his tdf titles. It would be a move unprescedented in sport and would give cycling nothing but bad attention

Marion Jones?

If any conviction is simply for fraud or misappropriation, I wouldn't have thought so. Mike Tyson wasn't stripped on any of his previous victories when he was convicted of a far more serious crime.

Mike Tyson's convictions were nothing to do with sport. They were criminal. Lance's indictment will probably involve taking banned performance enhancing products amongst other things.

committment

Noose NcMuckles is committed to making sure his trial by media campaign is successful otherwise he and Floymond et al face millions of dollars in damages when LA is acquitted. Now that's going to make for a good forum thread!

This is what I find interesting .. Floyd tried to use his 'allegations' to trade his way back into the pro-peleton apparently understanding and knowing all to well that when he got back in what he would need to do stay there .. But when he couldn't get back in he sent his sordid story on and said now I'm telling the truth ..

He claims he's just saving us from believing in Santa Claus .. And he 'had' to do it because he couldn't sleep at night .. Well Floyd all I can say is if you couldn't sleep before .. I don't see how you can sleep now ..

As for Greg Le Mond .. If they did (Mercx, Anqueteil, Tom Simpson, Riis, Moser, Delgado, Fignon, Kelly) .. He did.

Anything to support this allegation or did you just invent it?

Its reported here on this website ..

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/johan-bruyneel-floyd-landis-needs-help

Previously they had copies of emails from Dr Kay shopping Floyd to the team .. :)

Let us know when you have something more then some quotes from the Hog.

Funny how those emails disappeared from the Livestrong website....no suprise because they did not support The Hog's statements and did more harm then good

if they strip him from his titles they them give to

1999: zulle :D...escartin ???
2000: ullrich ...beloki
2001: same as 2000
2002: beloki...rumsas as backup :D
2003: ullrich, vino, hamilton (now thats company) zubeldia
2004: kloden ??? basso,ullrich
2005: basso,ullrich,mancebo,vino,LL,rasmusen

as you can see striping LA from titles could lead into some ridiculous winners,so i think its better to keep it as it is

Not quite as ridiculous as leaving them with Pharmstrong*.

*if he's proven guilty

It depends how long it takes the prosecution to come to a head. There is an eight year "statute of limitations" (which is why Riis' confessions had no effect) so Lance's victories from '99-'01 already are safe. It likely will be another year, maybe two, before the federal felony indictments start coming down.

Then again, the French do own the TdF, and they rule it with impunity. If they decide LA's criminal activity tarnished their reputation, they will make a new rule and DQ him from all seven.

I think it's a big possibility. When Marion Jones was found guilty in the BALCO scandal, the Olympic commitee stripped her of all the gold medals she won at the Olympics and her name was removed from all official books. So, the same thing could happen to pharmastron, ooops, sorry, armstrong.

Because it's about FRAUD, not doping.

They don't have to give the victories to anyone. They can just vacate the win.
They have never stripped anyone of a title in the past when they were found to be doping at a later date. If they do they mine as well strip every GC result during that period because there was not way anyone was clean.
