Ulissi doesn't work for others. It's key to be part of a national team.

Neither does Pippo, but would it really be a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket? Especially if that basket get beaten in a sprint by all the other top-favorites?

I count three baskets though: Nibbles, Pippo, Scarponi. And they all have a better chance to perform in this race than Ulissi.

I'm a huge Ulissi fan, but at this point of his career it'd be a stretch to bring him as a captain. And unlike a Nocentini or a Ponzi, he's not likely to help the team in any other way.

Reports that Philip Deignan is after breaking his collarbone in Tour of Britian fall. This is a disaster as he has been in great form all year and was vital for Dan Martin's charge. If Deignan is out there will be a lot of responsibility for Nicolas Roche. It also saves cycling Ireland a difficult decision on who to pick as it now looks as if Brammeier and Sam Bennett will now be in the team. Bennett had an excellent result yesterday coming second on stage two of tour of Britain and can definitely make the step up next year.

Ulissi was better than Nibali on the Naranco stage, that climb is similar to the WC route. He's Italy's best choice as 2nd option behind Nibali

What is Ulissi's best result in a 270-280 km race?
What has the goddam Unipublic Naranco stage to do with the hardest World Championship road race in 15 years?

Scarponi is also in great shape after the Vuelta and he's a proven commodity in this kind of races (check his results in LBL).

i'd rather take rui sousa than machado

oh wait he was the best climber in quebec lol

No Portuguese rider riding in Portugal is able to join the WC team, not even the National Champion lol. The races here, especially at this time of year, are a joke when it comes to pro teams, so no decent preparation. Only Mendes could have joined instead of Machado but we are betting on experience i think.

Machado did look good in Québec and Montréal. Hope both can keep up with Rui untill the last climb, or whenever he decides to attack.

French team

Road Race: Romain Bardet, Warren Barguil, Cyril Gautier, Amaël Moinard, Thibaut Pinot, Christophe Riblon, Anthony Roux, Arthur Vichot and Thomas Voeckler.

TT: Sylvain Chavanel and Jérémy Roy.

Tony Gallopin askesd the french coach to not be selected. Tweet from him:

Google translate: "No misunderstanding about my non-selection. It is myself who spoke to Bernard Bourreau my lack of racing and my doubts about 280kms to keep the world! My season is over and I wish the best to the team of France to Florence"

It does look like a collarbone. What a downer and considering the form he has been in, he will be a huge loss to an already small team.

Poland :

Road race : Kwiatkowski, Golas, Niemiec, Majka, Marczynski, Szmyd, Paterski, Huzarski, Bodnar

TT : Kwiatkowski, Bodnar.

This is our strongest possible lineup. Nice that everybody wants to ride

3 potential winners in that squad ( don't count a Contador as a very possible winner at all).

Will be intrseting whether LL Sanchez or Contador will do some work for their leaders.

Surprise not to see Flecha, a guranteed rider that will do his all for his leadesr..

Who do you call "their leaders"?

Valverde will be the leader. I reckon LL and AC will get a free role. AC has been too vocal about wanting to win to be a dom.

Does Stybar have any chance on this course?
