GB:

Men’s Elite Road Race – 8 places qualified

Mark Cavendish
Steve Cummings
Alex Dowsett
Josh Edmondson
Andy Fenn
Chris Froome
Luke Rowe
Ian Stannard
Geraint Thomas
Jon Tiernan Locke
Bradley Wiggins

No Kennaugh (done for the year?), Blythe, Millar and Swift (injured).

I'd say:
Froome (leader)
Thomas (free role)
Cummings (climbing dom)
Edmondson (climbing dom)
Stannard (for the first 100km)
Rowe (bottle carrier)
Wiggins (dom, if he takes part)
Then 1 (or 2 if not) from: Cav, JTL, Dowsett

Shame Kennaugh wasn't available!

I would say:

Froome (leader)
Thomas (free role)
Cummings (climbing dom)
JTL (climbing dom)
Stannard (for the first 100km)
Rowe (bottle carrier)
Wiggins (and Edmondson or Dowsett)

I can't see Cavendish riding, but you'd never know.

Don't Wiggo and Dowsett have to start to be eligible for the ITT ?

(the arcane rules around some of these events confuse me)

The TT is before the road race, I think that is just for the Olympics

In fact according to the first page some teams have two places for TT and just one for RR

The way they've both been riding this year I think Cav is by far the most logical, JTL has been invisible in all his races, I don't know how much help he would be.

Edmondson would be my pick, he's a climber and has had a great first year.

JTL's is a good fit for the course but his selection depends on whether he's built up fitness/form following the over-training Sky subjected him to earlier in the season.

Cavendish has said he wants to compete and help repay Froome for the help in Copenhagen. I would rather have a climber but maybe his speed will be useful for shutting down breaks before they develop in the early part of the race before the hills start.

I assume Thomas's punchier style means he would be GB's best hope if the peleton is still together before the last climb, but if Froome is leader at which point on the course would be best for him to attack from?

I know it's not really important here, but I'm extremely happy because Utensilnord qualified to the TTT event after the withdrawal of 2 Europe Tour teams. The lineup will consist of 3 Italian (Bosisiso, Mazzi, Rochetti) and 3 Hungarian (Dér, Cador, Lovassy) riders. It's a great step forward for Hungarian cycling!

The three spots in the Danish team will be between Chris Anker Sørensen, Jakob Fuglsang, Matti Breshel, Nicki Sørensen and Michael Mørkøv (Bonde told Danish newspaper). Personally I think the first three are the most likely to be selected.
As for the ITT; Quaade is secure and the seconds spot is between Alex Rasmussen and Brian Vandborg.

Cancellara will ride the ITT!

ITT:
Fabian Cancellara
Reto Hollenstein

RR (two riders too many):
Michael Albasini
Fabian Cancellara
Martin Elmiger
Mathias Frank
Steve Morabito
Gregory Rast
Sebastien Reichenbach
Michael Schär
Danilo Wyss
Marcel Wyss
Oliver Zaugg

The final roaster for the RR will be announced the 17th.

Not sure yet, he's nominated, he'll decide later on if he rides the TT. There are strong rumours that he won't do so.

Official info:
Preselection (Bold are already confirmed to be in):
Uran,Quintana,Henao,Betancur,Atapuma, Duarte, Chalapud, Pantano, Infantino, Cano, Acevedo, Serpa, Rubiano, Duque, Anacona, Arredondo.

My opinion:
Leader: Uran
2nd: Nairo
Top protector/climbing teammate: Henao
Helpers: Atapuma, Anacona, Acevedo, Arredondo (all As in my book), Duque
Joker: Betancur.
2013-Sep-12 update:
Duarte: out
Chalapud: out
Pantano: out
Duque: out
Cano: out
Serpa: out
Arredondo: out
Uran,Quintana,Henao,Betancur,Atapuma in.
4 out of the following 5 still left:
Anacona, Acevedo, Infantino, Rubiano, Sarmiento

That's right, Cayenato Sarmiento got on the list somehow.
I had hoped for Arredondo and Duque and felt Sarmiento should have been on the list...so now I would put:
Helpers: Atapuma,Anacona,Acevedo,Sarmiento and Rubiano over Infantino.

I believe Infantino will be in the ITT, btw.

Under-23 preselection:
Henao, Jaramillo,Chamorro, Ramirez, Parra.

Spanish Pre-Selection (14 riders):

Contador, Valverde, Purito, S. Sanchez, D. Moreno, Egoi Martinez, José Herrada, Jesús Herrada, Castroviejo, Arroyo, Vicioso, L.L. Sanchez, Flecha, Zandio.

Contador, Valverde, Purito, Sanchez x2, Moreno, José Herrada, Castroviejo and Flecha would be my bet.

Sounds about right. Which of those will be willing to sacrifice their own ambition for the good of the country?

Can you see one of the three armada working for another of the armada:D

Moreno, LL Sanchez and S Sanchez could act as personal domestique for each of them. I imagine Moreno would work for Rodriguez but who'd be willing to work for Valverde?
