You can name 9 better options?

Come on, don't go all ryo on us.

Why 9? I'm saying one rider shouldn't go. But hey, I'll give you 9.

David López, Vicioso, Izagirre, Plaza, Flecha, Arroyo, Jesús Herrada, Intxausti, Javier Moreno.

Samu has zero chance of winning and will only serve one purpose: disturb the team.

9 better options because for Samu not to be on the team there need to be 9 better riders of course. So you could've just named the other 8 plus one other :p

Who do you call "their leaders"?

Valverde will be the leader. I reckon LL and AC will get a free role. AC has been too vocal about wanting to win to be a dom.

I'm sure you forget JRod, because there is no way he has to work for Conta.

Does Stybar have any chance on this course?

He can climb but I think this may be just too hard for him. On the other hand, if Gilbert is one of the favorites, I think Styby should be also considered for at least TOP10.

I didn't say anything about Jrod and no I didn't forget him. My post was about the leader of the spanish armada and Luisle's and Alberto's role.

That's made it quite clear to me. I doubt if Valverde is the team leader. He and JRod don't go that well, so i suppose both men don't really want to see each other win. They both have a long season, i indeed expect more from Sammy and perhaps Moreno. LL Sanchez i don't really know, didn't have a splendid Vuelta and i never seen him perform well in a Liege-Bastogne-Liege or Lombardy.

I find that weird too. He should be their best rider for this route

He's had a tough season. Struggled to find in Europe and doesn't really have the results or form to warrant selection. Dennis for example is coming off a successful block of racing. The selection is fine provided Porte has actually been planning to be in form. Being his former mentor McGee should know.

Hesjedal not riding the WC.

Not sure if it's old news, but I don't feel like checking the entire thread :D

Does he provide a reason? He was 3rd in Montreal so the form is obviously there. Canada are now only selecting two riders for the road race despite having three places available to them.

Christian Meier and François Parisien will ride the road race and Svein Tuft the time trial.

Sebastian Langeveld replaces Wout Poels in Dutch team for World Championships

Gb team will likely be:

Froome
Wiggins
Thomas
Tiernan-Locke
Stannard
Edmondson
Cavendish

And then one out of Cummings, Rowe, Fenn and Dowsett. Normally Cummings but he's done very little lately.

EDIT - I see Cummings has made the BMC TTT line-up so he must have some form. He's the last guy then.

I would drop JTL and Cav. Bring along Yates and Rowe and let Dowsett forcus on the TT.

I think JTL has actually found some reasonable form. Enough to make the team anyway. Cav has declared that he wants to fetch bottles for Froome for the first half of the race so he'll likely get his wish.

Found form? What about the guys who have proved form. Wrong call. And let Cav sign autographs some other place.

Oh come on. Yates doesn't have enough experience to ride the men's worlds and all his focus and energy will be on the U23 race. Rowe pulled out of the Vuelta with an illness before the last week so his form is doubtful, not to mention that Cav can perform his role anyway (bottle duties).

where are we going...
JTL has been performing like a club rider all season and BC wants to use him at the 272km hilly worlds RR event..

And instead of Cav bring some rider who can gain from the experience. Look to France for a bit of inspiration.

In Canada there were some flashes of form, admittedly very brief ones. I'm all for giving riders experience (Edmondson) but selecting Simon Yates at this stage is too big a step.
