Yes I have, just want to remind you about the 'other' humanitarian crisis, the one in Syria, with 'front line' russian pilots doing the 'hard work' of bombing civilians with cluster bombs..along with helo pilots, dropping 40 gal barrels out of the door packed with explosives, on their civilians. You seem to want to just critisize the US(shocking)..yes, both sides are mired in messes..but russia/putin/al-assad/rouhani have been killing hundreds of thousands. wonder how your boy trump will get involved..turn a blind eye? A deal with the devil to help russia/iran/syria defeat isil? While allowing al-assad to continue to kill his people?

most folks in the west probably don't know nor care what is the shanghai pact. well, it's not quite a nato-type military organization, but per the idea of the founders (china and russia) the org was to strengthen the security of its members. turkey joining the china/russia lead pact would be nothing short of... if not a nato collapse then a complete re-alignment of the world's security lines.

The healthcare was in many ways better than what was offered in the country which continually tried to kill Castro, an alleged 638 times. He did this all despite the hospitals not having key drugs, due to the US trade embargo.

He also was one of the few which supported the black South African's movement from early on, giving support to Nelson Mandela, who claimed to have been inspired by him. The West meanwhile, supported the Apartheid regime wholeheartedly for the most part. His policy of sending doctors to countries which were in need when there was a natural disaster or outbreak far exceeded most 'First World' efforts. This earned him many plaudits around the world where this support was very much appreciated.

However, he persecuted gays, and his country is still poor. All things considering (the trade embargo), it is doing very well compared to neighbouring countries, but botched central planning did hurt Cuba considerably.

Who knows where Cuba would be today had they not been affected by said trade embargo: maybe they would have even become a democracy by now. An examplary Socilaist one, perhaps. It will forever remain a mystery.

He left before he was killed like many of his intellectual and artistic friends although he was imprisoned for a time and decided to flee when he was released. He died of AIDS in the USA in the eighties.

Big problems in Venezuela. Chavez really messed things up and the falling oil prices just added to it. A lot of illegals are now escaping from Venezuela and Guatemala. It seems that lack of social order, and gangs are causing many problems in the latter.

I have heard of that book but have not read it Actually Arenas died in 1990 at the young age of 47. I hope to read more of his work and also the Carlos Eire book.

This changed the situation for Egypt. Turkey and Qatar became enemies as did their proxy forces in Libya. When the Saudis officially asked the Sisi government in Egypt to support the Muslim Brotherhood the end of the alliance was reached. The MB is THE enemy for Egypt, not ever to be allowed in power again anywhere. It also broke with the U.S. who had supported the MB everywhere. Instead friendly relations with Russia were renewed

Well I can't say I wish him well on his journey. I have personal issues or feelings as in my family was affected by him.

He done what he considered best for his country. Which put him at odds with the USA. He was willing to work with either the USA or Russia at the time from what I understand. It was the USA that cornered him into a relationship with Russia. Or maybe I have that wrong. But we had this policy that still exist today ,,,,where Merickah wants to boss another country around and dictate what we see as merikahs best interest. When Castro started to nationalize corporations and seize corp money and property along with individuals that was the end of his relationship with the USA gov.

Not sure how I feel about Copperhead stating he will reverse the executive order to "normalize" relationships with Cuba. I thought or still believe it is a good idea to work with Cuba.
